Handout Text-Editor Issues

The text-editor was driving me nuts yesterday. And not for the first time, ohhh no. So, let me quickly spin you a tale: I wanted to put together a handout for a custom race in my next homebrew. I had the ideas ready to go. Took around three to four hours to get all the abilities together, spruce it up a little in terms of phrasing, make everything consistent and whatnot. And then... I took another three to four hours to get the handout to do roughly what I wanted it to do. I wrote that initial text in the editor itself. However, there were issues with the line spacing being inconsistent. Why? No idea. But it happens constantly. One paragraph has roughly 1,5, one has 2, one has 1, it doesn't seem to follow any rhyme or reason. And as you probably know, there's no option in the editor itself to fix the line spacing. Alright, I thought. Let me quickly copy my text into a word document and continue there. I fixed all the formatting to my liking. Neat, done, right? Nah. I copied it back into roll20 aaand... the text is black. And I'm using dark mode. Ah well. At least there's this option to reset to the default color, right? Problem is, though: It's not just the color. The letter size was different, too. Heck, the entire font was different. As you probably know, there's no option in the editor itself to fix font or font size. A friend of mine prefers day mode or whatever it's called. I changed font color to white instead of default, because for some reason, when I changed it to default, it messed with the line spacing again. And with the font. And with the font size. Go figure. So he's not going to use day mode, because my handout won't be readable then. All issues fixed? Heck no. See, I had a list in there. Makes sense, right? A list for different race abilities. Just some bullet points. There were, in fact, multiple lists for categories. Defensive abilities, magic abilities, et cetera. Why one list had a line spacing of 2 and the other had one of 1? Imagine me shrugging. I still don't know, and this is still not fixed in the 'final' version of my handout. More importantly, I tried to fix it. I dared. And the editor was not happy with me for it. I cannot even properly explain all the weirdness that happened when I tried to fix it, and in retrospect, I wish I had taken screenshots. But I was too frustrated at the time. The editor tried to make bullet points... next to bullet points. It didn't indent the point, no, there were two points next to each other. Why? Beats me. Funny thing though: I could repeat that process over and over and make a line of dots. How droll. So I tried to remove the bullet points entirely, have it as plain text, one paragraph after the other, and make it into bullet points for each paragraph. Didn't work out so well either. So at that point, I lost my will to go on. The editor was beyond 'uncooperative' and I was willing to nuke it. And nuking it, I did. I copied the entire text, lists and everything, into the windows text editor. The one that doesn't offer any formatting whatsoever. Which obviously meant that any and all formatting was removed. I had the plainest of texts. I copied that over into the roll20-editor and reapplied the formatting I wanted to have. Issues fixed? Honestly... no. The line spacing is still wonky. There's varying paragraph spacing between bullet points, and I don't know why or how to get rid of it. At that point, I simply gave up. I don't know why it does what it does. I don't know how to operate this thing to get the visual consistency I was aiming for. Word can do it. Nearly any other text editor I know can do it. I have no idea what the issue with the roll20-text editor is. Heck, I'm not even sure if this even counts as a 'bug' or if it's 'intended behavior'. And as I mentioned, I've run into this issue several times now. (I'm just lazy for not reporting it sooner.) I hope the text editor can get some love and care sooner rather than later. Not sure what's wrong with it, but from my experience, there's certainly something wrong with it. [/wall of text] TL;DR: Roll20 text editor broken (?), please... uh... fix?

Part of the problem is that many sources of text include hidden code that gets copied when you copy/paste. The code controls formatting etc. Try right clicking and hitting "Paste as plain text". That strips all that code out.  If there are further issues I suggest filing a bug report. The forums are generally for users helping users.
I'm going to try that next time I have to fiddle around with the text editor. Thanks for the hint.

The eraser tool in the formatting bar can strip out a lot of hidden formatting. In general, if you want handout text to appear correctly in both Light and Dark Mode: Create all text from scratch in Roll20 or do a clean paste as described above. Don't assign colors to text. Let the basic editor styles handle all formatting. Before pasting fresh text, if you have an exiting text box from which you think you have removed all content, hi the back space keey a few times. This can remove any remaining invisible formatting characters. Save the handout and look at it when it is not in edit mode. Unfortunately, some paragraph styles display differently while in edit mode. Flip the Dark Mode toggle off and on when reviewing your final handout. This can ensure that your players will see what you intend.
Thank you two for the answers. I'll make sure to try it next time I get the chance.

I just thought I would pop in and say that you can do this, but you also have to assign a background color for the text to keep visibility between dark/light mode.  Depending on the colors used, this may look a lot more "aggressive" in one mode or the other.

True, just trying to "bomb-proof" the process.
