I am a DM looking for five players for
the D&D 5e module, Storm King's Thunder , Saturdays from
2-5pm EST (5-8pmUTC) beginning on October 29th.
Check out the LFG listing HERE
About
Me:
I am Otters and Oubliettes. I
have over fifteen years of DM experience overall. I spent five of my
last ten years on a long-form D&D 3.5 campaign, plus various
one-shots, adventures, and modules sprinkled throughout and after. I
have been a professional DM for three years. Most of my time has
been spent in D&D 3.5, but I also have plenty of experience with
D&D 5e and Pathfinder, and I've dabbled in a half-dozen other
TTRPG systems. I have worked with both newcomers and veterans, and
have helped a good many new players figure out and become comfortable
with the rules. I emphasize the group-storytelling aspect of
tabletop: I want to be here to help the party tell their
story, and look good while they do it. My style generally leans
more towards encouraging RP and dialogue. My descriptions and
language will fall in the PG/PG-13 range -- there won't be any
gruesome details of heinous acts in my box text, intentionally
hurtful or inflammatory dialogue, explicit sexual content, or
anything of those sorts.
The
Campaign:
This will be a
campaign that generally follows the Storm King's Thunder adventure
module, which I have run before. There will be expansions, additions,
and improvisations to exactly how it goes, to better suit group
interests. Storm King's Thunder is designed for characters from 1st
to 11th level, but may reach as far as 15th
level.
So what is Storm
King's Thunder? From the official roll20 blurb for the book:
To fight
giants, you must be giant. Giants have emerged from their
strongholds to threaten civilization as never before. Hill giants are
stealing all the grain and livestock they can, while stone giants
have been scouring settlements that have been around forever. Fire
giants are press-ganging the small folk into the desert, while frost
giant longships have been pillaging along the Sword Coast. Even the
elusive cloud giants have been witnessed, their wondrous floating
cities appearing above Waterdeep and Baldur’s Gate. Where is the
storm giant King Hekaton, who is tasked with keeping order among the
giants? The humans, dwarves, elves, and other
small folk of the Sword Coast will be crushed underfoot by the
onslaught of these giant foes. The only chance at survival is for the
small folk to work together to investigate this invasion and harness
the power of rune magic, the giants’ weapon against their ancient
enemies, the dragons. The only way the people of Faerun can restore
order is to use the giants’ own power against them. Stand with or against the giants in
this adventure for the world's greatest roleplaying game.
Storm King's
Thunder is an adventure about exploring northwestern Faerun (from
Daggerford and Waterdeep in the south, to Ten Towns in the north, all
the way east to the edge of Anauroch) defending settlements against
larger-than-life foes, and solving the mystery of what has led
giantkind into this sudden emergence of violence. There's lots of
overland travel, plenty of locations to discover and explore, and
even the occasional dungeon as the party delves into giant
strongholds.
The adventure
begins with the party on their way to Nightstone, a small settlement
between Waterdeep and Daggerford, on the Sword Coast.
Schedule:
We will meet once
per week, beginning Saturday October 29th from 2-5PM EDT (6-9UTC). Sessions will be three
hours long, with a five-minute-or-so break in the middle of each. I
expect this will last for 6 months to a year. We will begin with a
free “session zero” on October 29th to get acquainted with one another, discuss
character and story ideas, and otherwise prepare for the campaign.
Tentative first session time is set for November 5th, but our
official start will depend on interest and availability.
Time zones and DST
being what they are, expect a bit of growing pains during the first
couple weeks, as Europe ends DST at the end of October and the US
ends DST at the start of November, so some players may notice session
time drift and hour. Final session time, once DST has settled, will
be Saturdays, 2-5pm EST (5-8 UTC) .
Rules
and Expectations:
We will be using Discord for voice
communication. Video will NOT be expected of the players. You will receive an invitation to a campaign discord server.
Be decent. This campaign will be
LGBTQ+ friendly. I am queer, and the campaigns I run are queer.
There will be zero tolerance for sexism, racism, homophobia,
transphobia, ableism, and other forms of bigotry.
Players of any level of experience are
welcome. Whether you've been playing since AD&D or this is your
first foray into tabletop, you are welcome to join this campaign.
Just be ready and able to invest yourself and try. I will accommodate
for newer or less-experienced players, to help get them caught up.
No homebrew content will be allowed for
character creation. All official WotC content will be allowed,
however all Unearthed Arcana content must be checked with the DM
ahead of time. That stuff is for testing purposes, and is rarely
in a state of playable balance.
Engage. Tell me,
or the group, what you as a player and as a character want out of
this campaign and world. Help us all, together, to tell a
meaningful story. I'll be checking in with each of you
mostly-weekly to make sure we're all happy, and getting what we want
and need.
Regular
attendance will be expected. I respect that sometimes life happens,
especially in the ongoing global pandemic situation.
Sometimes sessions will be missed. This is okay.
However, this is a paid group
activity wherein your presence or absence will affect the dynamic, so
I ask that you do your best to attend every session, and let us know
as far in advance of any absence as you can. If you have
paid for a session that you miss, your payment can either be applied
to the next session you attend or refunded to you, your choice.
Application:
If you are interested, please fill out
the following via roll20 private message (or as a reply in this
thread). If I don't answer you within a day or so of your
application, please assume that the site is being wonky about PMs and
try again.
Name: (What
do I call you)
Pronouns: (Also
what do I call you)
Age or Age Category: (Because
sometimes players get along better with others of similar ages)
D&D and Roleplaying Experience:
(How much have you played of what versions, are you part of an improv
troupe, did you spend your formative years on a Warrior Cats RP
forum, etc)
Preferences and Triggers: (The
goal here is for everyone to
be comfortable and have fun. This helps me be better aware of topics
to avoid and plan around to ensure that goal is achieved. We'll also
further discuss lines and veils prior to campaign start)
What interests you about playing
tabletop RPGs: (Do you like rolling big numbers on damage dice,
tactical combat, roleplaying with other players, meeting weird and
interesting NPCs, the potential for a story to happen how you want
it, etc. Again, the goal is for everyone to have fun, so knowing in
advance what everyone wants helps to build a group of players with
similar goals.)
