Each of the prior
eight worlds, in its own way, is too distant, too different, too
incomprehensible. Life today is too dangerous to dwell on a past that cannot be
understood. The people excavate and study the marvels of the prior epochs just
enough to help them survive in the world they have been given. They know that
energies and knowledge are suspended invisibly in the air, that reshaped
continents of iron and glass—below, upon, and above the earth—hold vast
treasures, and that secret doorways to stars and other dimensions and realms
provide power and secrets and death. They sometimes call it magic, and who are
we to say that they’re wrong? This above is one of
the first paragraphs in Numenera and what drew me into the system and it's
world. It's story based on the secrets of civilisations past whose
technological and mental prowess was so far ahead one could only assume it was
magic. It instantly drew me in as I skimmed through it and I knew I was hooked.
For the last couple
months I've been running a short campaign with my friends, using a (for us) new
system called Numenera. We've recently finished the starting adventure in the
core rulebook and the combination of a rather free form character creation and
the strange setting have been amazing experience.
Having tested the
waters I now feel comfortable running the game for a slightly larger group and
thus am looking for one or two more players to join us on the Tuesday Evening while we explore this strange land and it's inhabitants together.
System: Numenera,
based on the cypher system, uses D20's and a more free form skill system than 5e.
Day/Time: We play on Tuesday evenings from 19:30 till 23:00 CET though the exact day is not set in stone.
Format: Discord
(Voice) and Roll20
Experience and player requirements: As
stated before we're currently quite new to the system and are planning to play
through a couple of the starter stories. So new players are very much welcome.
For the players
experienced in Numenera: We're playing through the story called Vaults of
Reflection and I'd prefer people who haven't run/fully read this story. Other than that, I'm looking for open-minded players who know when to joke and when to take the story serious.
Feeling and tone:
Most of the story
will centre around exploration and character interactions and most combat will
be optional / might be unwinnable straight on. This means that the game will
rely most on roleplay with combat coming second.
Roleplay Heavy: This
is something I can't stress enough, expect multiple sessions without direct
combat.
Story and setup: If
you're reading this I expect that the above has at least piqued your interest.
The story focuses on
a party of travellers (the party) who've recently gotten hold of information
about a place the locals call "the Vault of Reflection". Here the
meddling's of those who came before still affect the world today, eons later.
Broken hounds, abhumans and mindhunting spirits are said to still roam the area
but stories of an ancient vault filled with amazing treasures and magic of the
prior worlds will lure in explorers, ready to seek their fortune among these
perilous slopes.
Though dangers
abound, the potential gains far outweigh the perils, or do they? Together with
a group of some like-minded albeit strange folk you set out to this hidden vault to gleam
it's secrets and repurpose it's parts.
