Game Day With Fallout: The Roleplaying Game Date: Sunday, November 13th Start Time: 11:00 AM PST / 7:00 PM GMT Duration: 5 hours Voice: Voice will be run on Discord Everything Else: Roll20 is used for everything else: character sheets, maps, handouts, music, and sound effects Finally the metal door gives way, but not without a protesting shriek and groan. It has taken you all considerable time and effort to open, especially surprising given how rusted and degraded it is on the bottom. The opening is obviously where the hatchlings had come from. The stench that erupts from the darkness is powerful. Your eyes start to water. Surveying the exposed room with your lights, you see a number of semi-translucent round shiny globes covering the floor and walls. There must be at least a hundred. A number near the entrance seemed to be broken. But others are responding to your presence; their interiors fluttering with the mirelurk hatchlings inside stimulated, or perhaps bothered, by your light. One of your lights hits what seems to be an irregular wall; the beam from their lantern goes up and up, but then drifting to the left, you all see a number of dark globes, multiple eyes which shift to look back at you. She is awake and she sees you. Suddenly the whole space is filled with the sound of her inhuman cry, one unmistakable as anything but the fury of a mother protecting her brood. As if in answer, you hear popping from the eggs around you. Changes from previous sessions: a) Through the holiday season, this game has been shifted to Sundays. I understand that this was not convenient to some and that some will have to drop out as a result. But the conflicts with holiday and family dates made this unavoidable. If Fallout is still ongoing after the holidays, I will poll the current players and ask them if they prefer to continue on Sunday or to shift back to Saturday. b) Daylight Savings is over, and we’re now on Standard Time. That means that normal GMT start time will be one hour later. c) This specific upcoming session will start 2 hours later and will go for one hour later, which makes it very late for folks in Europe. This is the only session with a planned later start. Subsequent sessions will all begin at the usual 9:00 AM PST / 5:00 PM GMT start. There are open seats for this Sunday's game. If you’re in want of a game day or just want to hang out in the wasteland, this is your opportunity to let your inner wastelander wander. In this sixth installment, we will be continuing with the adventure, Once Upon a Time in the Wasteland , or Once Upon a Time in the Commonwealth , as it had previously been titled. Prospective players should not have read through or previously played this adventure. This session, we’ll be either finishing Chapter Three of the adventure, or that adventure will be finishing the players, as they have stumbled upon something that they were likely not prepared for. Surviving characters (and the replacements of any that don’t survive) will then be starting the final chapter of this adventure, which could, depending on player actions, open up a whole new story arc. So though it will start with an intense action scene, if that works out, it will shift over to a lot of roleplaying — and then who knows from there. This is a game of action and adventure set in the post-apocalyptic world of the Fallout franchise. The system is Modiphius’ 2d20 system, an RPG that encourages creative thinking, initiative, and a unique system that fosters team cooperation and strategy. We’ll be using the published adventure from the Starter Set, Once Upon a Time in the Wasteland . For those that are familiar with the video games, this game is set in the Commonwealth area of what used to be the Boston Metro region, prior to the events introduced in Fallout 4. There are a number of linked adventures designed to ease players into the system, so the plan is to proceed as long as there is steam and interest to explore as many as possible. Pre-made characters will be available. These game sessions are designed for people to come into and play casually. That said, the full rules system has been added to the Roll20 game and is available in the compendium: everything one needs to understand the game, not that you need to do this. Again, everything will be ready for you to drop into a character’s skin and venture out into the storied wasteland. However, it does offer the opportunity for those who are good self-starters and are perhaps more experienced roleplayers, to take a stab at making a character of their own, as long as they are capable of doing so without needing help, as I will have my hands full getting everything ready. If that’s not you, then consider playing a pre-made instead. Because these 2d20 games really shine when teams cooperate and work together, I will be looking for players who demonstrate an ability to put the team foremost and not always seek to be the go-it-alone type. This game acts best if there are characters who can function as builders while others act as consumers; everyone wins in the end. It’s a great system if you want to act as a support character, but you will need to learn the nuance of how those function. I like to emphasize story and encourage roleplay and exploration of character, over brute force. But this is Fallout ; it is a game of action and adventure, but how it plays out depends on what you bring to the table. For me, it's about being in character and having fun just living the feeling of being in that setting. And if that's you and you have some time and are interested, please consider joining us for a game day. We'd love to hang with you. This is j ust an easy-going game day to have some fun and socialize. As always for my games, the primary rules for interaction are courtesy, patience, acceptance, tolerance, and having respect for everyone. Newbies are welcome. Games are always free. Having or knowing the rules is never required. And for " one-off" social games like this, characters will be provided. All you need to do is show up, ready to have some fun. PM me if interested.
