"In this blessed world, each of us has been granted a destiny and a spirit by God's Will. These two things are the foundation of what we classify as 'humanity.' But, while we can quantify and measure the power, and even personality of the spirit we have no means to do so with fate. Yet, the call and effects of destiny are well documented all throughout history. Are we, the scholars and magi, correct to attribute fate to the grand Design of God against the overwhelming forces of Unfettered Chaos and Tyrannical Order, or are we merely conflating the tales of both great and terrible men into design where there is none, so that we may comfort ourselves in the absence of clear Divine Mandate?" ~From the Lecture against Cynic's Heresy by Tradition Master Rolos Reeds~ SUMMARY Hello! Welcome to Spirit's Fate, a Genesys TTRPG campaign set within a completely custom homebrew setting with tens of thousands of words of backstory, world history, and thematic notes. But, what is Genesys? Genesys is a TTRPG system created by Fantasy Flight Games which uses a custom series of "Narrative Dice" which provide three aspects to each dice rolls result, not just 'Success' or 'failure'. You could make a sword slash that connects with your target, but leaves you open for a disarm, you could fail to activate a Magical Foci to lower a drawbridge, but incidentally draw power from it and increase the strength of your next spell! This system promotes turning each dice roll into its own short story and description. Rarely will you simply win or lose. Well, what sort of setting is Spirit's Fate? Spirit's Fate is a Medieval mid-fantasy setting with Steampunk undertones. In its construction, I've taken influences from things like Thief: The Dark Project, Old School D&D(BECMI/AD&D), The Witcher, and The Golden Compass. In terms of tone, the setting is NobleDark. The forces of Chaos and Order are in constant battle in the background, civilization is not something to be taken for granted, and one wrong move can lead to a tragic outcome. However, heroism exists in the hearts of those noble enough to face the seemingly impossible odds, and strive for good anyway. META & SCHEDULING This game takes place on Thursday nights, starting at 9pm CDT. We use Discord for voice in a private server. The game will max out at about six players. We currently have five, so we're looking for one more person to fill in a roll. We may be able to fit a seventh depending on certain factors, but primarily we're looking to just fill the one slot. We are welcome to players brand new to the system, most of the players in the group are fairly new. However, if you've ever played any of the Star Wars FFG RPGs like Edge of Empire or Age of Rebellion you'll be familiar with the Narrative Dice System. The party as it stands has an Alchemist, a Divine Spellcaster(Priest's Apprentice), a Hunter, a Primal Spellcaster(Think Druid), and a social face. Don't let this limit what you choose to do as the options are endless, but this information can help guide you if you prefer to play something unique in a group. The campaign is expected to last roughly a year, maybe more. Your characters will go through story archs and explore an entirely unique setting. PLOT & SETTING The world of Spirit's Fate is like ours, one in which humanity has become the prominent force on the earth. In the continent spanning Empire of Farweh, human-kind is mostly united under a single banner of the Golden Kaiserdom, as well as the Temple of Virtuous Knowledge. The Temple and the Empire are two institutions that have been tied together for hundreds of years, since the birth of the latter. The Temple teaches that knowledge and understanding of the world are the highest virtues, and that to understand the creation of their God, is to understand ones-self and be purged of sin, usually with the help of your Spirit. In this world, each human being was born with a Spirit. Your Spirit is a sentient ally, your closest confidant, a part of yourself, but also apart from you. Your Spirit can take many shapes, but there are generally only a few recognized Spirit-Types. Those who gain power or live through incredibly traumatic events often find that their Spirits will become tangible entities, not simple mirages with minds, as most Mundane folk live with. As you gain power and experience, so too does your spirit. Depending on your Spirit Type, you will gain more abilities. [These Spirit Types essentially act as your starting race. As you gain experience, not only can you spend it on abilities, but you will naturally become stronger in Spirit, gaining unique abilities tied to your Spirit Type.] Example Spirits -The Implement: Your Spirit is in the form of a sentient item you can summon at will. As you gain power, the item becomes of higher quality, or it can gain new forms, perhaps a little of both. -The Familiar: Your Spirit is an animal form. It can become more and more dangerous animal forms, as you gain animalistic features yourself. -The Doppleganger: Your albino skin and eyes mark you. Your Spirit is a shadow of yourself, never becoming quite as real and physical as some, but a master in taking on the appearance, sound, and scent of many forms. It is said a Doppleganger who becomes a legend can be in many places at once, as their Spirit, disguised as other individuals, splits away like shadows cast by streetlamps. -The Wisp: Your spirit is of an elemental Nature. It empowers spellcasting, should you be capable of the act, and as it gains power it can become a stronger and stronger form of Elemental. Your features are mixed with the Elements that tie to your nature. Your hair my constantly blow in the wind, or your breath may spring forth embers from your throat, or your callouses may resemble stone protrusions. These are but some examples, there are other options to choose from during character creation. In contrast to these two wide-spanning powers, are the many eclectic 'Pagan' sects. Native tribes and clans of various regions colonized or annexed by Farweh in the past who live off of the Great Highways, away from what most would consider safe and habitable civilized land, so that they may practice their ancient rites away from the eyes of the Temple. These 'Pagains', instead refer to themselves as the Druidic Circles, and have long been in spiritual and physical conflict with the Temple. These titanic conflicts of history however, will be distant things at first for our group. You will start within the village of Wild-Well, the largest town within a region known as the Tribe-Lands, the most recently 'conquered' region of the Farweh Empire. It is an untamed land, and even your village being the capital of the area, has only a population of roughly 250 individuals. Your group have lived in the village for sometime as natives, nominally citizens of the Empire, though Wild-Well was founded in generations past by a pact between Temple Missionaries and Druidic Tribesfolk, who agreed to mutually build the community, rather than squabble over land. For this reason, many of the superstitious old practices remain. While peace has held within Wild-Well for many years, something is coming. Soon, that peace will be tested, perhaps even shattered... As the Empire grows fat on its perceived superiority, stirrings of rebellion still remain, even after a failed attempt at such in your neighboring region, the Meadow-Lands. Not only do you have these dangers to contend with, but the wilderness is -not- safe. Stepping off the roads unprepared is to invite death and despair, unless one is prepared and beside good allies. Still, in order to survive and prosper, your village may require you to make that risk... Will you brave the dangers ahead, or be swallowed by them? Can your abilities keep those you love safe? Will Chaos, Order, or something In-Between gain hegemony over this untamed region, ripe with opportunity... To apply for this game, please take a look at the application section here- -https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/358549/spirits-fate-prologue On the LFG posting will also be a section for any questions about the game you may have.
