i noticed that wherever i put text is not the spot it appears in when i right click. it moves slightly and is very annoying.

If you are talking about text on the map/tabletop, I believe it tries to snap it to grid. Yes, it is annoying.

If you hold Alt, you can position it precisely when moving it. There isn't a way to position it precisely while creating it. If it matters, you can put it on the GM layer first, position it correctly, then move it to the object or map layer.
