About Me: I'm Alex Storey, a Dungeon Master for years (primarily through Roll20.) I am a high-production DM. I love using high-quality maps, handouts, artwork, and music to drive the atmosphere. My day job is as a virtual trainer, so I'm great at doing production-level work very quickly. I have a small but growing YouTube channel too. Check that out here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjNM--DPXfbm3lAZlkWsEwg This is my ONLY paid game on Roll20, this means you will have my full undivided attention during games! Here are reviews from my players: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZDJ5kyBXkGXEBR52HMqiPDrm25TTq0VYGf-i3eXbXpQ/edit?usp=sharing Tentative Schedule: If everything goes great, I'm hoping to have our first "Session Zero" to talk and get to know each other by April 11th. This would be unpaid. Simply a time to meet everyone. Then we should be good to play weekly after that, with "Session 1" starting April 18th. This is my first time doing this, so if it takes longer than that to find a group these dates may change! Some General Guidelines I Have Found That Help Games Be Awesome Alcohol: Allowed, but stay focused and maintain a positive experience for everyone Player Attention: Important for game flow; provide feedback if not entertained or losing interest Player Expectations & Diversity: DM aims to balance gameplay for various preferences; communicate concerns if needed Tangents: Keep them short and focused Dice Rolls: Announce/ask before rolling to prevent metagaming Dice Rolls vs Other Players & PVP: Roleplay interactions; ask DM for guidance if needed; no PVP unless part of a story conclusion Player Agency: Encouraged; consult DM for potentially game-changing actions Player Character Secrets: Allowed, but consider sharing with players to avoid metagaming Game Balancing: DM leans towards Hard/Deadly encounters; adjusts for story context Rules Debates: Raise concerns; DM has final say; may postpone complex rule debates for after-session research Spotlight Sharing: Be mindful of dominating playtime; share the spotlight with other players Meta Knowledge: Play characters as written; avoid metagaming MinMaxing: Allowed; discuss extreme concepts with DM for thematic adjustments Loners & Antisocial Characters: Soft no; discuss with DM for integration strategies DM Style: Rules as Fun; story over mechanics; role-play over roll-play; preparation-focused Player Absences: Notify in advance; DM will adjust for narrative continuity Player Narrative Authority: May be given to players for certain story elements Please no sexual assault or other topics. Game Style: Action Adventure with a focus on combat, but lots of Roleplay! Dungeon Fire’s House Rules Ability Scores at Level 1 Standard Array or Point Buy. Feat at First Level No matter which race a character is, they get to choose a feat at first level. The feat can be any feat they qualify for (if there are racial/ability score requirements) except the following. Lucky Great Weapon Master Sharpshooter Feats at higher levels Using the variant rules found in the PHB, characters can choose additional feats instead of taking their Ability Score Increase. The feat can be any feat the character qualifies for (if there are any racial/ability score requirements) except for the following: Lucky Inspiration Personally, I’ve grown out of favor of using Inspiration in the traditional 5E sense. Having been that person on the “players” side who felt I should have received inspiration when I didn’t, I now realize that I don’t know if I can fairly grant it in an arbitrary manner. I’ve also encountered players who “hoard” inspiration for a rainy day, and therefore never really use it. Because of this, my inspiration house rule functions as follows. Inspiration is awarded at the beginning of every session for every player. The player must use it before the end of the session. When using inspiration, because this is a heroic moment, the player character must roleplay their action. Flanking Flanking will use the adjacency rules found in the “Using Miniatures” section in the DMG. However, instead of providing advantage, flanking provides a +2 to melee attack rolls. Downtime Activities The Downtime Activities listed in the DMG and XGE are fairly robust and I feel yield great rewards for the majority of players. However, for those who would like to use downtime activities in a very specific way that doesn’t fall into any of the predetermined categories the books suggest, I will either customize a reward or provide “luck points”. These luck points last until you use them and function like the luck points from the “Lucky” feat. Using Potions of Healing Potions of healing always heal the max amount of health. To steal a fairly popular house rule, using a potion of healing on yourself takes a bonus action. (Keep in mind that this also applies to adversaries as well) Food, drink, encumbrance tracking Encumbrance follows standard binary rules from the PHB. I will not track food or drink outside of character flavor without specifically telling you (i.e. you’re venturing into a desert or something where long-term supplies are warranted)
One of our players is stepping away to run Icewind Dale with his family! With that we need one more player who is interested in playing with us! We just started the campaign so there would be limited catchup. (A session 0 and one session of gameplay) After you apply (and are accepted) I will be available via Discord to help with character creation and tying the character into the Ten-Towns/Icewindale backstory lore. Right now the group is a Cleric, a Fighter, and a Ranger (who is planning on multiclassing). There is a need for arcane spellcasting if that is what you'd like to do!
