NPC sheets keep forgetting to "use this token"

This is becoming exceptionally frustrating.  I spent literally HOURS going through individually and creating monster stat blocks as NPC cards to use, and then individually setting up tokens for each, and selecting "use this token" on each and every single one.  And they keep randomly forgetting/not saving the preset tokens.  I've had it do this to me 4 or 5 times now.

Hi Captain Corvid! If something is going wrong with the "use this token" process, another way to do this is the original method. Set up the token using the actual selected token's settings box (not the one you get when editing the character). Then open the character, click on the button to remove the current default token, and then click the subsequent button that tells Roll20 to use the selected token on the VTT as the default. Also, a common stumbling block (just in case this is part of the problem) is that when you duplicate a character sheet, the default token attached to it, still points to the original character, not the new duplicate. (This is because a default token is actually a little JSON "file" that is saved all on its own. It doesn't know what sheet it is associated with.)
Hi Keithcurtis; thanks for the response. Yeah; the former is what I've been doing: open the NPC sheet's edit function, select the token on the VTT itself, choose "use this token".  Usually; that works flawlessly.  The issue is that between sessions, it seems that occasionally it will "forget" what I've saved, and occasionally when "taking a creature out of the list" on teh side as it were, it will just default back to the normal 1x1 token with none of the settings I've saved.  It's not ALL of them; or even msot of them, but it happens enough to become annoying. At first, I thought I'd just forgotten to do it for a few of them; even though I specifically did it for each.  That was; until I did this again for one of my players' sheets that I SPECIFICALLY recall doing this for., and it forgot its settings again.

Hi Captain Corvid,  To clarify the problem, the character sheet is not remembering that it has a token saved to it at all?  Or it reverts to an earlier state...or something else?  To help diagnose what is going on I could use a list of what is reverting and screenshots of the settings being forgotten.

I'll try to grab screenshots the next time it happens (if it does); but again, it seems to occur at random. To clarify what's being lost: - I'll create a character/NPC, assign it an image, then drag it out onto the page I'm using for set-up - I then modify the token, in this case: 1) add nameplate, 2) adjust size if needed, 3) add its hit points and AC to the little circles above it, save changes, check that they're applied etc. - I then, with the token selected, to back to the NPC/character sheet, and instruct it to "use selected token" where-upon it appears in the token section. - Later, usually in a different session (Closing the site and logging out etc.), I'll come back, drag out a new "instance" of the NPC/character onto a new page, and that saved info will not load.  It instead gives me the default 1x1 nameplate and info-less version of the token, and when checking will not have retained the customized token. - The customized token still exists on my work space/set-up page; all I have to do is tell it to use this token again, and it will work when making a new instance of the NPC... but it's very frustrating and a waste of my time. It's as though the application is running out of memory or something; but that's entirely a shot in the dark.

Not sure if I can replicate this, but that "use this token" functionality is newer and may have quirks for some users. I would suggest instead of using the button, using the process I outlined above. It's not terribly different, number of steps-wise.
Well: did it again, to several (but not all) of the saved NPC sheets... that is really frustrating.

A possibility: Where are you dragging the token from ? Are you dragging from the sheet (incorrect) or from the journal tab (correct)?
As in when putting them on the play area?  From the journal tab; if I look at the sheet's "edit" page, the "token" field is just empty instead of having the saved one.

Your steps look sound, I'm not sure where the breakdown is occurring. In your fist step you say " I'll create a character/NPC, assign it an image , then drag it out onto the page I'm using for set-up" How are you assigning it an image? Are you talking about a token image or the avatar? Also, the image is from your user library? Are you running any extensions that might modify the behavior of Roll20? To test: does the problem occur if you do the setup and the reload all within a private browsing window?
