Oh where, oh where, art thou...a solid group or long-term campaign that would play a published game on a weekend evening

Howdy folks. I'm Sherlock and I'm looking for a solid group ( a mix of some older and younger players) or long-term campaign that would play a published game on a weekend evening (Fri., Sat., Sun.), either weekly or every other week. I have a good number of years of experience with D&D (5e and 1st and 2nd ed.), mostly as DM.  General preferences include a strong desire to play published adventures (Yes, feel free to customize it and make it your own) using the core rule books. I am less interested in power gaming, multi-classing, homebrew classes, or playing the latest and greatest new subclass. Similarly, I don't want to be pigeon-holed into playing a princess-goddess-mermaid, in order to keep up with the Jones's and not be rendered ineffective or obsolete. As a DM , I have an old school flavor (probably as a player too) and prefer the rule of cool with a tactical combat lean. I have DM'd more times than I can count and would love to sit on the other side of the table with some fun-loving, like-minded, folks. That said, I would be willing to take a turn running some select adventures, either every other week or as a second, follow-up, campaign. I don't have a theatre background or make my own professional battle maps, but I do some voices, make handouts galore, set killer soundtracks, and put forth a great effort in running a fun and smooth game. As a player , I come prepared and ready to play. I seek creative solutions, prefer merit-based rewards, and try to do more, with less (rather than just playing between Rests).  I will bite your plot hooks, engage with other players in and out of game, and do what I can to help drive the story forward. Let me know if this resonates with you. Good Luck!  ~Sherlock

Hey there Sherlock, firstly I can empathize greatly at the lamenting we all experience when undertaking the great and arduous labour of Hercules that is searching for a campaign to join! While I wish I could aid in your search for a game, I find myself in the same predicament. I have yet to find the confidence to begin DM'ing, so I myself cannot aid you in that endeavour either. But if you are in need of some additional players who thrive, like yourself, in sinking teeth into plot-hooks, who thrive in throwing characters at every opportunity thrown at them, who love to explore the dynamics and relationships of the party. Both myself and a friend of mine, who we've not played together in a game for over a year now, both are after a new stage with which to tell fascinating stories! So, to summarize, if you need two extra butts in seats. I know a person also eager to play, and we've a Fighter-Paladin combo that, despite the fact we've NEVER played them, have spent hours fawning over their (potential) interactions and their experiences together.  Good luck in your own search, by the way! ~The Gael (an edit; and as far as published games go, the neither of us have ever played Storm King's Thunder or Tyranny of Dragons. So we've some interest in those published modules.)
The Gael I, I sent you a message.
Would either of you be interested in a Pathfinder 1 game set in the world of Conan (Like the movies and video game) that is played every other sunday from 6 to 9 pm EST.  It is a low fantasy, high grit RP/Storyline driven campaign with a decent amount of combat.  It is mature 18+ and there is room for a few players.  PF1 is identical (For the most part) with dnd 3.5. Player actions do have consequences and they can and are changing the dynamic of the Isle they are currently exploring.
have ya all checked the search for games function? There are 10+ pages of free games being offered: <a href="https://app.roll20.net/lfg/search/?days=&amp;dayhours=&amp;frequency=&amp;timeofday=&amp;timeofday_seconds=&amp;language=Any&amp;avpref=Any&amp;gametype=Any&amp;newplayer=false&amp;yesmaturecontent=false&amp;nopaytoplay=true&amp;playingstructured=&amp;sortby=relevance&amp;for_event=&amp;roll20con=" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/lfg/search/?days=&amp;dayhours=&amp;frequency=&amp;timeofday=&amp;timeofday_seconds=&amp;language=Any&amp;avpref=Any&amp;gametype=Any&amp;newplayer=false&amp;yesmaturecontent=false&amp;nopaytoplay=true&amp;playingstructured=&amp;sortby=relevance&amp;for_event=&amp;roll20con=</a>

Half of them are people who are looking for a DM so they can play.
SGT Scott, I do check the Search for Games function periodically and have applied to a few games. Once I include my preferences, there aren't a whole lot of options. I still appreciate your taking the time to make the suggestion though. Good looking out. ~Sherlock

Good looking out. ~Sherlock Howdy- It is all about presentation, excitement and being enthusiastic. &nbsp; Never include personal info on yourself, talk about the characters YOU want / desire to play that sort of stuff. I would strongly advise staying away from saying things like drive the story forward, bite on plot hooks that sort of stuff. Just go into the game and play what is offered. Get rid of the "as the DM" part, all that does is tells ME that you are expecting perhaps Critical Role type of expairience with the prospective campaign. I mean dont get me wrong, if what you put up there looking for a game helps thats fine, I am coming at this post from a DM's perspective and see way too many apps and posts that seem to give way too much info with little substance. I have spoke n (star wars ref lol)
I can agree with the emphasis being about presentation, excitement and being enthusiastic however, I completely disagree with the rest of it. I am assuming that you're trying to help, which I can appreciate, but it is the exact opposite of what I'm trying to accomplish. I'm interesting in maintaining a long-term group rather than just getting into any ol' game. I can get into games, but I'm looking for something deeper and more meaningful..like who it is that I'm playing with. I could care less what character you're interested in prior to knowing the game, setting, DM, and the other players. It's not about YOU, it's about the WE. Some people won't understand this (usually the more self-centered ones) and only focus on something they want to play, regardless of whether or not it's even appropriate. Games change, characters die, and come and go, but the Player remains the same. If I can gel with Player, I can gel with the character. The inverse is not necessarily true. What I mention in the post IS the important information, the rest is just fluff. Who I am and how I play is so much more important than what character I chose to play. I realize this is not a popular as the "tell me about the character you wanna play" approach, but most people struggle with making a proper assessment and/or understanding what is really important. This is one main reason a lot of games fail. It's difficult to find a group of people who mesh well enough to maintain a long-term group. To paraphrase Matt Colville, most rock bands don't get along well. Few are like RUSH, who are, and have been, friends for years. Most bands are like the POLICE. A group of individual talents, who can barely stand each, but attempt to collaborate and end up disbanding. I have no idea what a Critical Role experience is (other than invested voice actors) or why my game engagement is reminiscent of that, but I'll take that as a compliment. This, however, is not the space for an in-depth discussion on the matter. You do you and I'll do me. I chose to respond so that others might see what I am going for and, hopefully, it will help bring some clarity. Matt Colville seems to understand the importance of knowing the player: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQsJSqn71Fw" rel="nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQsJSqn71Fw</a>
Good luck with your search. These forums are filled with jerks and self-centered idiots. Stay the course and apply your standards up front.&nbsp; I've found that every time I trust my instinct about potential players, that I am always right.&nbsp;
Thanks GMD. I appreciate your reaching out and offering a voice of encouragement. It's good to know that there are still a few of us out there. Cheers! ~Sherlock

Hi. We are looking for a couple of mature (agewise) players to join a modified Curse of Strahd game (5e). We play every other Friday at 6pm PST (8pm CST/ 9pm EST). Let me know if you are interested.
Sent you a message, Bee.
Hi Sherlock , I'm unsure of your timezone, however, i f you are interested a Curse of Strahd game, please have a look at this thread to see if it would be a good fit for you. <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/11402596/lf-1-2-players-5e-sundays-7pm-central-curse-of-strahd-plus" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/11402596/lf-1-2-players-5e-sundays-7pm-central-curse-of-strahd-plus</a> All the best, Xero
Still looking for you...
Hey all, I have a group that may fit your wants! It's currently me as the primary DM for a 5e game and 4 guys that all play in a style similar to what you may be looking for. We play Saturdays at 10am CST. Most of the group is from the UK so it's 4pm UK time. We're currently playing through Tales from the Yawning Portal so it's many old school adventures converted to 5e. We're going to be starting White Plume Mountain soon so it would be a great time to join. Let me know if you're interested and I can send more info.

I feel you. Not sure how married you are to DnD, but if you want to give Pathfinder 2e a try, I'm starting up a group for a adapted version of 13th Age's Eyes of the Stone Thief, which although not a boundless campaign, should go on for multiple dozen sessions.
Abby Rose, I sent you a private message. ~Sherlock

Sup Sherlock, Is it fair to assume you've been thru hell with toxic GM's and Players on Roll20 since we last spoke, a while back? I've had to scratch my own game before we hit the first session, too many toxic players went right through my screening process... -.- I've been playing with a bunch of guys for over 6 months now, the group had it's share of drama, but after our GM left us without saying a word over the holidays, 5 of us decided to keep going and have been playing ever since. Next Saturday we'll have our first session in a lvl 1-5 Ranger-only homebrew prelude to "Dungeon of the Mad Mage". Then sometime in June, I'll be starting my campaign to playtest my re-write of 5E. We'll be alternating campaign in-between Chapters / Acts, to give us time to prep more stuff, with room for others to run one-shots and stuff here and there. We're looking for one more player that would fit well with our group. I could put you in touch with our "dedicated recruiter" if you want. P.S.: We're playing Saturdays afternoon EDT, and our table is free of any woke BSness.
Sup Neo, I sent you a private message.
