Compendium Sharing Revamped

Score + 25

Edited May 11 (1 year ago)

Noticed that if I enable the "share Compendium" option for a game (game settings --> compendium settings), and then set some of my green-listed compendiums to not available (i.e. red-listed) because I do not want players to have them searchable, me as GM too am not able to use/see them in-game.

So currently there's no option for the GM to have in-game access to red-listed, or have the players access only to a subset of the green-Listed compendiums.

*************************   UPDATE   **********************

Potential solution:

  1. Game Master & players promoted to Co-GM only should keep in-game access to a new flag: Blue-Listed  compendiums

  2. Have SRD component selectable like the other owned compendiums

... and bumping up this feature to the next level:

  3. making the categories selectable too for red, blue and green check marks, by altering the compendium entry as expandable to display all the categories contained in it.
By default the compendium's flag is inherited to the categories, but changeable by the owner.

Usage Example for a 5e Game:

accessible for all (green-listed):

  • Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide
  • Xanathar's Guide to Everything
    • Category RollTable (Blue listed - i.e. accessible by GM only)
    • Magic Items (Blue listed - i.e. accessible by GM only)
  • Player's Handbook

Accessible only by Game Masters (Blue-Listed):

  • Dungeon Master's Guide
  • Storm King's Thunder
  • Tales from the Yawning Portal
  • Princes of the Apocalypse
  • Essentials Kit

Removed from in-game access (Red-Listed):

  • Baldur's Gate - Descent Into Avernus
  • Lost Mine of Phandelver
  • Eberron - Rising from the Last War
  • SRD

The intent is to remove redundant entries, keep searchable compendiums focused on the campaign, keep curious players from being distracted.

Pro

Good idea. This would really be a nice feature ;-).

+1, reducing clutter for players while keeping the books available for DM use would be very helpful.

The way it works now, when my players drag-and-drop equipment from the Journal's Items list to their sheets, they have multiple versions (SRD and book) of some items, and lots of items their characters will never have access to from books I added for my own reference. The DMG list of magic items, for example. If they find a set of Boots of Elvenkind, I'll drop them.  I don't need players asking "I've got 100 gp, can I buy boots of elven kind?"  (which they've done).

The one thing I'd add: it would be nice to be able to filter by type: for example, add subclasses from Tasha's for character creation, but not the equipment (magic items) that book provides.

Yap indeed.

A very good point, let me include it for the sake of completeness :)
