Hello! I'm a long-time DM who is looking to start up a new campaign and am looking for six players. My last party did not survive my transition across the United States with having to change what times we played. I am looking to start up a new long-term campaign that plays once a week on Tuesday evenings.  The initial theme will be decided by player vote but will be chosen from among these options and the players will start in a city: Pirate. Desert Wastes. Political Noir. Dying Kingdom. Civil War. The time slot will be Tuesday at 6pm-10:30/11pm PST. Tuesday the 6th will be session zero as we jump into the campaign, character creation, and meet the party. The delay in the initial start date is to provide ample time to get the frame of the campaign setup based upon player feedback and finish up player selection. In this session, we will begin unraveling the tapestry that is my homebrewed world of Galbuus, meet the other players, finalize character creation, decide upon certain mechanics rulings, and get pumped for the world. Prior to this date we will have sat down and created characters and woven them into the story either individually or in groups of 2 to 3. A critical component in my mind is linking characters into the world and each other to allow for the development of unrevealed content to connect the player deeper into the narrative and allow for 'hooks' to arise. My style of DMing is one that focuses on storytelling and puts a heavier emphasis on roleplaying rather than combat, with the pacing favoring fewer but harder fights (combat that will be challenging but by which preparation can make it easier). T his is the kind of campaign where ancillary skills such as History, Nature, Arcana, and Religion are as important (if not more important) for information gathering as the more typically used skills such as Stealth and Perception. With that in mind, there will be an expectation that players will lean into that roleplay aspect and spend more time playing the idea of their character than the mechanics of it. Creativity is key here and DnD is a joint storytelling experience!!! Failure is interesting and as a result the bottom floor of failure states is not always death. In accordance to that, adaptability of goals and aims around a changing situation is important and provides for cohesion as players pull a story in different ways than can be anticipated. In this, the campaign will welcome beginners and I will work with you to help you learn the system, but I would be remiss to describe it as beginner-friendly. New players will have extra work but experience alone rarely trumps excitement and desire. If roleplay is not something you are comfortable with at least experimenting in, this is likely not the best campaign to jump into. The style of this campaign focuses more on intrigue, puzzling, and an open-world narrative that explores the idea of causation and consequence than most campaigns. The world, which is entirely home-brewed (including some changes to monsters and environmental effects + I am willing to homebrew characters as well), will evolve in the background as you play the game through dice rolls that I do behind the scenes in which the player actions will manipulate to help influence what groups and factions rise and fall with the tides of fate. In that endeavor, I enjoy it when my players work to situate themselves within the world. I am more than willing and truly enjoy working the story to fit the ideas and wants of the characters and their players. My one caveat in this is that in a joint storytelling experience, the balance is gained through sharing the time at the 'table' with the other players that you play with. I don't mind when players play center stage or showboating characters but my preference is that the trait is exclusively that of the character. Character balance within the campaign is measured by the rest of the party, this is both in relation to mechanical balance but also to the more ephemeral balance of tablespace. I homebrew a number of rules within the game. Most notable amongst them: If you take half of your HP + 1 in damage on a single turn, you must roll a DC (11 + half player level rounded down) Constitution saving throw or roll on the Lingering Injuries Table. Short Rests and Long Rests are changed dramatically, in the spirit of making adventures feel like adventures and safe spots more important. Death saving throws are secret. Combat expeditiousness rules that are agreed upon by the party. The campaign will be 18+ and explore mature and visceral themes, such as slavery, tyranny, survival, villainy, racism, and societal degradation (to name a few) that allow us to explore philosophical concepts to a greater degree. To facilitate this, we will be using black cards (if any situations arise that a player is uncomfortable with occurring they can use this and we will pivot to change course away from the situation), gray cards (if a situation is one that a player wants to move past but is comfortable with occurring we will fade to black and not narrate the situation any further) (all sexual context is fade to black). The usage of these cards does not need to be public knowledge.  Important Notes: Absolutely No Sexual Assault. Races will be placed in local social hierarchies (you can work to change that hierarchy if you so choose). LGBTQ+ Friendly campaign (sexual preferences will not be a part of the social hierarchy). Evil is the product of a person's heart, not their race, although NPCs may perceive other races as evil due to past trauma, etc. Rules Lawyering is undesirable, the rules act as a framework more than a rigid structure. The spirit of the law is more desirous than the letter. Requirements: The desire to build an intricate character with flaws. An ability to enjoy cooperatively telling a story with your fellow players. Preference on having a camera . If you are interested in applying and meet the requirements, please feel free to comment, send me a DM (not sure if my roll20 account can receive DMs at the moment), or message me on Discord at Soundtribe#8124 What is your name and what are your pronouns? How old are you? What is your experience with pen and paper RPGs? What aspect of a world do you find most fascinating?  What types of stories do you enjoy telling? Is there a particular character you've been wanting to play? If so, tell me about the character. If you would prefer to wait to see the world and or party before constructing your character, tell me about your favorite character instead.  What do you enjoy the most about DnD? Describe your DnD playstyle.  Any questions you have for me. Can you consistently make the weekly time slot of Tuesday at 6PM PST and what barriers could arise, if any? If you have any questions for me, post them up! And make sure to follow the thread :) P.S. I am looking for a player to write session notes and post them at the end of each session and a DJ to help me manage the music during the session.
