The Edge of Civilized Civilization Campaign Update (3.5D&D)

The game went well this week, 50% success with new players. One person came up with an awesome character concept which is ready to begin play next week or watch others get their characters rolled up and prepared for the adventure. The other player, meh... Insisted on playing a 7th level Illithid, in spite of repeatedly being told this starts as a 1st lvl game. I offered a solution: "Roll up a regular character to meet the group. At around 5th level, we'll work an epic hero style character death, and transfer your xp to the Mind Flayer you want to play. But you can't start a 1st level game as a 7th level character!" He politely declared this game wasn't a good fit for him, so, whatever, good riddance, wish him the best of luck towards finding a DM who allows his play style. In the meantime... ?!?!?!?! Still need real players for next week. Copy/ paste the game description below. are you ready? NO!!!NO!NO!!! I SAID... ARE YOU REAEAEAEAEAEAEADDDDDY!!!?!?!?! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- "If you can't take a little bloody nose, perhaps you should go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and vulgar, But it's not for the timid." -Q- This 3.5 Edition Dungeons & Dragons game (with reasonable discretion concerning other games' character types) will be held on Sunday afternoons at 1:00PM based on American East Coast (New York, D.C., Charlotte, Atlanta, Miami) time. Each session will last about 5 hours. 3.5 base rules with considerations. I'll be here working on the game, Sundays, 1:00-7:00, if anyone wants to join a quick meet and greet or play a one-shot. Otherwise, character roll-up and Session Zero is going to be when we meet and decide which Sunday to begin play. This starts as a 1st level game. We'll improv a quick encounter or two just to get on the same page, as a Session Zero. Then we start the formal adventure. It's a sandbox, we figure out what the players want... City adventure, mystery, creepy Halloween, traditional dungeon crawl? I'm just the referee who sets up the playground, it's up to you guys to tell your story. I'd like to have 4 players. Actually, I'd like to rotate playing a dozen characters so we have 3 -5 people playing each week. That way, you can play a few weeks in a row and take time off as needed, someone else might play every other week, or whatever works best for each player. This way, we end up with different characters of different levels playing together each week or every other (or third) week as it suits each of the players. A guest coming in to play a NPC for a session is also acceptable. It fits my perspective of running a sandbox and my OD&D/1st Edition AD&D background. Unfortunately, video is required. You don't have to run it the entire game, please turn it off while you scanarfle a snack and fart afterwards, but we need to confirm you aren't a 12y/o jumping into an adult game. And it's helpful to everyone to see who we're playing with. Are you ready? NO! I said, ARE... YOU... READY?!?!?!?!?!
Why do you have to out a player like that? I get it. Dumb players are dumb. But airing your dirty laundry to the public is bad for appearance. Really bad. Shows your character, and makes me not want to join. AKA keep such things private for everyone's sake.

I pointed out a common problem play style in Roll20 in which someone insists on playing a 7th level character in what was clearly advertised as a 1st level game. I consider that a troll, doing nothing other than holding up the game for serious players who actually read the description. I was also pointing out how I tried to give the benefit of the doubt in order to let the player join and level up into the character they wanted to play. If you don't want to join, fine, why are you interrupting this thread to chastise a game you aren't interested in? Regardless, thanks for the chance to bump this post. The Edge of Civilized Civilization is based on a rural area on the very edge of "The Kingdom." Although technically under The Kingdom's jurisdiction, it's about a week's journey from formal laws. There are a couple of small towns, a Keep (small castle representing The Kingdom), some farms, trade roads, and a few dungeons interspersed throughout the area. The game is based on letting the players tell their stories, with adventures prepared for the play style they prefer. If you want to solve a mystery, I have it ready. Wanna destroy some goblins, orcs, ogres, giants? I have that prepared, or the undead tier of baddies if you prefer. You can also explore the world meeting the NPC's and gathering information, or you can go to the carnival and rent a steed for the dinosaur races. Something else? There's more in this campaign, and it has room to add stuff if I haven't already prepared it. Whatever you want to do, but you start at 1st level in this game.
Nothing wrong with what you said. Makes perfect sense to explain why you have an opening again. Pretty irrational random backlash.
