[LFP][GENESYS][Wednesdays] Spirit's Chance: A fantasy steampunk Academia game.

System & Summary This is a game run in the Fantasy Flight Games Genesys narrative-dice system, using accessory material from the Realms of Terrinoth fantasy supplement and the Expanded Player's Guide set in a custom written fantasy-steampunk  setting with concepts inspired by fantasy settings and stories such as old Michael Moorcock Elric novels, The Golden Compass, Thief: The Dark Project and many others.  Players both familiar, and new to the system are invited to apply. If you've ever touched the Fantasy Flight Games star wars systems such as Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, or Force & Destiny you will recognize much of the baseline systems used in this game.  Some expanded rules from those systems as well have been adapted for use in this more setting-neutral version of the system.  Setting & Tone The Setting of this game is, as stated previously, one entirely designed by the Storyteller. Thousands of words of notes on cultures, races, and magnificent creatures are prepared for the discovery of the players. The Setting is known as 'Farweh', and is of the Steampunk-Fantasy genre, leaning heavily on the Fantasy than Steampunk, however expect much cogs, gears, steam and mechanical contraptions within urban areas in the setting. The most defining feature of the setting are the 'Spirits', which are the analogous to  player 'races' and a heavy focal point of the lore. In this fantastical world, every human being is born with a 'spirit' that takes on one of a certain kind of form, each sentient and an individual, but connected to their human from birth. Most peoples spirits are ephemeral, and cannot interact with the physical world, however exceptional individuals or those who face hardship will typically manifest their Spirit physically. As they accrue power, knowledge, and experiences these exceptional individuals will find their spirits gaining more abilities, and influencing even their physical bodies.   The land of 'Farweh' is a large Empire made up of the central titular land, and its many vassal states that were conquered hundreds of years ago. For a long time, there was peace within the lands, but that peace is fading. As the Empire's nobles grow more corrupt, and the vassal states seek greater independence, the Arch-Mage, who is the Head Priest, of the official religion of the Empire has sought a way to mend the political divides between the Vassal States and the mainland. The Academy of Fateful Convergence. This Academy was founded with permission by the Kaiser, leader of the Empire, and under the direct orders and structure of the Arch-Mage and Temple. The Academy is a means by which young nobles, and other exceptional individuals from throughout all of the Empire's holdings can come and receive an education that guarantees them a place within the Empire, as well as prestige for graduation, for only those who excel magnificently are able to pass the grueling trials students are put through. For some, this Academy is a chance to claim a new and greater life, if they can prove themselves worthy. For others, it is a chance to strengthen political alliances between noble houses, and for others still it is simply the quickest way to achieve their goals. Whatever the case, the curriculum is designed to teach in the ways of Magic, Martial Combat, Exploration, Temple Doctrine, and Knightly Chivalry. Whether one wishes to become a grand and powerful High Magi, an influential and affluent Colonist Noble, an Honorable Knight Errant, a Strategic master of Soldiery, or even a pious High Priest of the Temple, one can find learning here.    You, the players, are the newest batch of students to enter the Academy. Whatever your past, you must graduate, and prove yourself worthy of the teachings offered by the servants of the Arch-Mage.   The Tone of the game is NobleDark, Meaning that while at times the game can be dark and there can be horror-esq situations, an underlying current of Heroism in the face of Adversity rules throughout it.  META & SCHEDULING Firstly, aside from some more specific rules and expectations to be discussed during interviews with potential players, there are some baseline rules and expectations you should consider before applying.. First, if you have issue playing with LGBT+ individuals, please do not apply to this game.  Secondly, this game is going to be very roleplay heavy. By virtue of the Narrative Dice System used in Genesys, you'll spend most of your time playing in-character. Everything from a social debate, to a crafting check has narrative stakes and mechanics behind it in this game, designed to facilitate improvisational RP and a flowing story that is informed by dice rolls, but interpreted by player and DM alike. Equal attention will be paid to a devastating exchange of social barbs, as would be to a sparring match between bitter rivals.  Thirdly, if you fail to make three sessions in a row without very extenuating circumstances, you'll be kicked from the game no questions asked. This game has been running for about 4 sessions, we recently lost a player due to scheduling conflicts. We are looking for atleast one, but potentially 2 players. So far the party has been sorted into their "House Dorm", which is essentially the dormitory they call home during their time as students at the Academy. They are in Serene Hydra Dorm, a dorm primarily made up of the intelligent or those who seek to broaden their magical skills.  Current Party Make-Up Reed: A scrawny but tough urbanite urchin from the robber-baron ruled city of Yern, with a penchant for athletics and a sharp cunning. Palisade: An armored scion of a politician family from the Twin-Crater republic. Shy, socially awkward, but enduring and loyal. Yenfri: A magically gifted noble heir from a family in the warrior-cultured kingdom of Stern.  As you probably can tell, I'm fine with skill overlap, though this list can help you figure out what sort of character concepts you might want to bring into the world.  Finally, Scheduling. This game will be run on Wednesdays at around 9pm CDT.  APPLICATION You can apply by messaging me privately here on Roll20 stating your desire to play, as well as your general experience with TTRPGs and Genesys(if any), as well as any general information about yourself you feel is relevant. Alternatively, you can contact me at weevilknievel on discord. All potential players will be vetted through a voice call interview. This game will be discerning about who is allowed to join in, but experience is not necessary.
