I realized the other day that we have no way to measure cone AOEs on roll20! It looks like there have been many other roll20 users who wanted this feature in the past. Let's gather together and turn this into reality!

Adding cones, circles and squares that work similarly to the existing ruler tool would probably be the single greatest improvement Roll20 could make.
There are spell effects that can be bought / downloaded. They can be assigned to a character sheet and made editable by all players. The player then simply pulls the spell out to the VTT and places it where they want.
I have always liked the interface elements in this: https://xkcd.com/1663/ You move the arrow in or out to widen or narrow the cone, and you move the dot around the circle to change the color of the light. I think RPGs would need more precise controls, but it's an interesting starting point.
Adding this functionality to the ruler is a great idea (or tool bar in general) I do have some of the Spell FX (Gabriel Pickard) and they are neat (And do use them alot when I GM) , though , it is not that user friendly to insert them within the character sheets (and in my experience does not always work when transferring characters between games)

Yes that is the way to do it but how Justin B. said, they are not user friendly, sometime you want a cone of 30 ft and not 15, or one of 10 or 40 feet and the template image from market doesnt work this way, the same with circles. This too would be GREAT, at least make it to PLUS to no throw to the trash the work of the people of marketplace +1!!!!!!!

Just adding to the above comments: players can't re-size tokens they control, so this is... kinda not that useful for measuring different sized cones, unless you keep a library of all the common sizes

That is delightful! I hope you have them archived in your character vault!
+1 I was just needing this feature and had to work around with a custom made transparent cone image I imported into the game. Its a lot of extra steps to make this work and it would be really helpful if Roll20 had this built in.
+1 so weird this doesn't exist yet.
Hey folks, Sorry for my delayed response here. We have started work on a new measure tool that will include area of effect shapes. We hope to have something out in the next week or so to try out. It won't be all the shapes you're going to need but it is the first step to redesigning the tool. We hope to have more releasing to follow as we get them done. I'll keep you all posted here.

Good News! We've just released the new Measure Tool. You can read and post about it on the Announcement Thread: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/11575260/opt-in-to-the-new-measure-tool#post-11575297 . I'm closing this to refund all votes for you to spend in other places. Thank you to everyone who has given feedback about this. Your time and attention has helped us back the tool better for everyone. Thank you!
