This is probably already a suggestion in the long awaited Page Folders suggestions, but if it hasn't been considered already, being able to add custom thumbnails for pages would be really helpful, amateur picture proof of concept below:
As a note, you can already control this via the map layer. The largest map layer image gets turned into the thumbnail, even if it is behind all other images. This technique is used extensively in modules where smaller images form the map image, but a large low quality image is underneath all the other images and is selected to be the thumbnail.
