Token Ownership Assigned on Drop

It would be useful if you could have a character controlled by "All Players" in the Journal that, when a player drops it onto the VTT sets the token to be controlled by that player, leaving the original character sheet unchanged. The purpose would be to allow "generic" items, such as a mule or lantern, which anyone could place, but once placed the instance would only be controllable by that player, and multiple players could each have their own instance, without interfering with each other. And yes, I know this is likely difficult, since token permissions normally derive from the character.  It would require some setting, exposed on the sheet (but likely in underlying VTT code) that separated the token from the sheet for control and used the Controlled By setting on the token instead, while still allowing other things (like AC, attacks, etc) to come from the character sheet. You can sort-of do this today with tokens not linked to a sheet, but the DM has to place them, or with a shared sheet, but then players tend to move the wrong token thinking it's theirs.

Hi Ken,  Just making sure you know that as a Pro user you have access to Mods (API scripts) which I think can accomplish this. If you'd like to go that route I'd ask the Mods (API Scripts) forum for assistance.  Note: This is not a negation of your suggestion (I am just a fellow user), just a "in the meantime you can do it this way" response.
Thanks for the pointer.  I do use scripts, but only relatively limited, simple, ones. However, I'll give that some thought.
