System: D&D5e Frequency: Weekly (Sundays) Time: 12:00 PDT (Noon) - ~6:00pm PDT (May go longer or shorter sometimes) Apps required: Roll20 and Discord (Link will be provided in PM) Language: English Hello, we are a group of 5 (1 GM and 4 players) who are currently looking for 1 more player due to a player having to bow out. This means that the campaign has already started, and thus any new player will be coming into a group that has some dynamics/world interaction already under-way. The party is level 3 currently, so your character will also be starting at level 3. Further information/context will be given when you join our group of players (aka join us the people rather than the party of characters). Below I will re-post the original posting (minus irrelevant portions such as starting level, etc.) for the campaign to provide the context of the campaign: While there is no out-right age
minimum, basic respect and maturity is desired. There might also come
times where mature topics are brought up, though they aren't going to be
constantly in the forefront. As far as experience, new players (new to
D&D5e or TTRPG's in general), veterans, and anything in-between are
welcome. Before getting into the campaign/setting details, I would like
to give some details about me. I have been a GM since D&D5e
was in play-testing and have run campaigns that lasted from several
months to campaigns and groups that have run for multiple years. This is
to say that I would consider myself experienced with the D&D5e
system, though I have also played/run a decent list of other TTRPG's as
well. I like to facilitate player creativity when it comes to game time
both in RP and in combat, however I do like to try and stay within the
realm of plausibility/realism in a world of magic - in other words while
it is a fantasy world with magic, basic physics and science still
apply. Lastly I am a big fan of homebrew, using it, discussing it, and
creating it myself. I am fairly open to homebrew so long as it doesn't
remove fun or fairness from the rest of the group, and even if something
wouldn't "fit" I will do my best to rework it so that it or something
similar would be acceptable for use in my campaign. On to the campaign/setting; Mist Delvers This
is going to be a homebrew campaign/world where the known world has
experienced a cataclysmic event in the far past which has impacted life
drastically. A strange, unending fog has engulfed the surface from
mountains to the oceans, changing whatever once lived there: some
physically, others mentally, or commonly both. Even the landscape itself
hasn't gone unaffected; there are areas where the terrain itself has
become infused with magic, areas that once belonged to a certain biome
now stand out as pockets of otherworldness, or even places where the
laws of magic and the mundane world hold little to no power. A
dangerous, chaotic landscape which while technically hospitable to life,
it doesn't serve a good basis for long-term civilization. Which is why
long ago, civilization has decided to migrate upwards toward the sky. Floating
landmasses, individual settlements, or even solitary buildings and
complexes, have been altered to float high above the mysterious mist
away from its influence. Some through arcane means, others from
technological advancements, but all are now bastions of daily life where
people try their best to survive and thrive. One of those places is
Beacon, a massive city that has long since expanded past its initial
landmass and has become one of the largest settlements known in both
current and past history. Despite all the achievements of daring
survival, life in the sky isn't easy nor guaranteed. Resources from
stone and metals to livestock and crops, while they can be to some
degree harvested or cultivated high above, inevitably their stocks must
be resupplied from below the mist. Even some of the arcane and
technological methods that keep life afloat require components that can
only be found down below, making dangerous expeditions a necessity as
much as they are about curiosity. To keep civilization going, from
peaceful farmers and city-folk to bandits and tyrants; to better
understand the new world; to achieve personal ambition; delving through
the mist is the newest, dangerous frontier that many must now face. Some technical details/information regarding the campaign: -
The campaign will be using the milestone system rather than experience
(players level up at relevant plot points rather than by doing specific
actions/combat) - There will be homebrew content; this will range
from monsters, magical items, equipment, etc. but also include other
mechanical systems. I am open to homebrew races, classes, etc. for
players, but I retain the right to re-balance things to ensure it is
fair for the other players. This may even include re-balancing over the
campaign if something becomes unfair. - The intent is to have a
healthy mix of roleplay and combat (50/50), but there may be stretches
of time where one is more predominant than the other. - The world is
not going to be centered around you; just because you are the player
characters doesn't mean that all encounters will be balanced for you nor
that the world won't progress without you. The world is a dangerous
place, and sometimes retreat and regroup is the best decision. This also
means character death is a very real possibility, and resurrecting your
character may not be an easy task. - The campaign will involve a
fair amount of freedom/sandbox opportunities; this means that sometimes
there may not be an "official" direction given, and the players will
have to decide on what they want to do. This also means that players can
interact with the world at different scales, and may impact and in turn
be impacted by the world in meaningful ways. These can range from
individual actions and consequences, but can also include the political
realm (faction relationships, political intrigue, etc). - I understand that life can throw
curve balls and missing a session sometimes happens. If this is the
case all I ask for is a head's up before the session at your earliest
convenience. The same goes for if there are longer periods of not being
able to play (travel plans, work schedule, etc) or not being able to
make it to the first session; you and I can come up with rationale for
your character's absence. However I do expect that you can
reliably/consistently show up in general; this isn't a drop-in, drop-out
campaign.
