Token Hit Points Don't Match Token Bar

For a while now, in every D&D 5E game I play, all the players sometimes see that the hit points shown on the token bar do not match the character's actual hit points.  This is true only for the owner of the token/character; all other see the correct values - only the display on the health bar was wrong and only for the player.  This happens for all players at least half of the time. Sorry for the size of this picture, the resolution changed when I uploaded it, and if I increase the size it gets very blurry. The hit points on the character sheet shows 63 current and 63 max while the hit points on the token show 62 current and 63 max. When I'm the DM, I noticed that if I go to the Token Setting Dialog Box by double clicking on the token that I see different values than if I go to the Token Setting Dialog Box by opening the character sheet, hitting "Edit" and selecting "Edit Token Properties."  In the following example, the dialog on the left was opened by double clicking on the token and the dialog on the right was accessed via the character sheet=>Edit=>Edit Token Properties: The left image shows 79/79 while the right image shows 56/79. The correct hit points was 79/79.  There are other differences in the two dialog boxes including things like Player Permission for Bar 3, Token Auras, whether the Tooltip Show box was selected, etc.  As I recall, changing the Player Permission for Bar 3 so the two dialog boxes matched did not solve the issue, but I'm not 100% sure of that. It seems the two dialog boxes are drawing their information from different places, which seems strange. BTW, the incorrect hit points on a player's token bar seem to match the hit points in the dialog box gotten to via the character sheet. I saw a post describing a similar problem about 8 months ago, but it doesn't seem to have been resolved. -- John

Hi John,  You provided a screenshot of a character named Reese. Then you provided a screenshot of a token linked to a character named Alatar.  If they are supposed to be the Character and associated token, then that would be the problem, the token is not linked to the proper character.  Regarding editing via Token vs editing via Character's "Edit Token Properties", those are two different systems.  Token edit: this edits a "copy" of the token. It does not affect the master copy of the Token that is saved on the character, unless you update it as the master copy.  "Edit Token Properties": This is the "master copy", as a result it can be different, depending on if it has been updated recently.
Thanks, Gauss. The "Reese" screenshot I obtained as a character, since the problem only shows up as a player.  The "Alatar" screenshot I obtained as a DM, since I can only get to the Token Setting Dialog Boxes as a DM.  I'm showing two different issues that I thought might be related.  Given your explanation, I'm thinking may not. Thanks for the information on the two different systems of editing token information.  I think it makes sense to me now. I'm not sure the two systems explains why the bar on the token doesn't always match the hit points on the character sheet. -- John

There are three known bugs which can cause a "disconnect" between token and character.  1) Graphical error, when you adjust the token's bar other people don't see it. Sometimes not even the player that does it.  Solution: delete the token and grab a new copy.  2) When the token is dragged from the Journal tab the bars are incorrect, usually out of date. Such as when the token was first linked to the character, like at level 1.  Solution: Fix the token's stats, then re-link it (Update Default Token or Use Selected Token) to the Character.  3) The Phone App can change the HP on the character sheet, but it will not change the HP on the token. This is because there isn't a "push" from the Character Sheet to the Token when using the App. It is a known limitation.  I don't know if any of these issues apply to the issue you are having. If you are seeing something that doesn't fall under one of these issues please let me know and we can dig further.

I believe you can also copy and paste a copy of the token, and that will cause it to update properly (both original and copy). I have encountered this issue sometimes, too, but I'm not sure of the actual cause.
I have no screenshots to support this, but I have observed this behaviour in-game.  What I have specifically seen is health bars not updating to match the number in the bubble (which matches the character sheet, when you go in and check there).  This also has been observed to happen for some players' game instances and not others: i.e., when I look at someone else's character on my screen, I see a full health bar, but when the owner of that character looks on their screen, they see the injuries.
