Previewing tokens removes other tokens' Status Bars

January 09 (1 year ago)

When previewing tokens, all other tokens' Status Bars outside of their visual range disappear when exiting preview.

No preview:

Previewing with Token A:

Ending preview removes all Status Bars which were out of Token A's visual range:

Previewing Token B:

Ending preview removes all Status Bars which were out of Token B's visual range... EXCEPT the Status Bar of a token which has a long enough visual range to see Token B. I've tried this several other times, and the only Status Bars not to disappear are the ones whose visual range is long enough to see the Token which is previewing.

There is, as far as I can tell, no way to bring the Status Bars back while playing. A semi-fix is to have one token on the map which can see everything, and that way you can preview as that token to make all Status Bars reappear which are in visual range. Obviously this does not work if there are visual obstructions.

Please fix this. It makes previewing a huge pain in the butt, since we use Status Bars for a reason.

Hi Jay,

I was not able to replicate this.
Which browser are you using?
Have you tried an Incognito (Chrome) or Private (Firefox) window?

January 10 (1 year ago)

I've tried it on both Chrome and Firefox. Forgot to mention that.
Also just tried incognito/private, and the problem persists.

Sorry for the late response,

I tried in both browsers and couldn't replicate it. Could you send me an invite to your game so I could see it in action?

Hi again Jay,

I found the problem, you have assigned yourself control over every character. This can cause some unexpected consequences if you are the GM.

The remedy is to remove yourself from controlling ("Can be Edited by.....") every character as the GM does not need that.

To replicate the issue:
Assign the GM control over evey token's character.
Then use Ctrl+L on a token where another token would be out of sight.

I suspect this is related to the "faded token" GM layer issue that is caused by the same problem (assigning the GM control over a token or the token's character).

hey gauss, thank you for finding it.

now the thing is that i didn't use to do that. a good while ago i had the issue you mentioned, and i read somewhere that assigning control fixes that, which it did. so i'm assuming once i remove control from every character, i'll have the translucent tokens again?

IIRC, translucent tokens are the result of assigning control of a token to the GM.

That's a consequence of Explorable Darkness, yeah. I suspect that the disappearing token bars might be a simpler fix for the devs.

Other way around. It's the "fix".

thanks, i'm glad i remember correctly then. i've added that information to the helpdesk request i made. hopefully it's something that won't take ages to fix.

The transparency issue has been known a long time. The nameplates might be an easier fix. We'll see. A lot of stuff is being re-written from scratch for Project Jumpgate.

yeah i figured. i let them know anyway, since now we're forced to either deal with the transparency or the disappearing token bars, and having to choose between those two options (or not using explorable darkness, i suppose) is pretty depressing.

There is the second workaround, sending the tokens with missing token bars to another layer, then back to the original layer.
It is annoying, and not ideal, but it is workable.
