[LFDM] [D&D 5E] [APAC East] [Paid] Group of Five Players Seek DM for New Campaign

Hello Roll20 and D&D community, My party of heroes and I are on the lookout for a DM to start a new campaign. We posted in here late last year looking for a new DM . Sadly, after only two sessions into the campaign our DM tragically passed away to due heart disease. We are passionate for the game, and our dear departed friend would have wanted us to press forward and keep playing together. So we return to the community looking for a DM to guide us five through a new story and adventure together. About us: We are a mixed group of five players all living in APAC (3 in Australia, 1 in China, 1 in Japan). We play on Thursday evenings (for us) at 8:30PM GMT+11 - time can be negotiated We have played together virtually for nearly 2 years, with intermediate to expert level experience in D&D 5E We are RP heavy players who like to build characters with well thought out backstories - expect lots of character to character interaction and banter We get along really well and routinely hang out is discord after sessions (but not a requirement of the DM though) What we're looking for An experienced DM who favours an RP rich campaign and willing to weave character backstories into the narrative A good balance of combat, exploration, and social type D&D play We're not too bothered about whether the campaign is WotC, 3P, or 100% homebrew - but we'd like the DM to incorporate homebrew to make the world we play in feel more lived in and tailor fit For those interested, I kindly request applicant to respond to the following questions: 1. What’s your proposed cost per session? (assuming per player) 2. What time zone do you live in? 3. Does our proposed session time of Thursday evenings for APAC East time zones work for you? (Thursday 8:30 pm AEDT (UTC +11)) 4. What’s your DM style with regard to play ratio (combat/exploration/social)? 5. What is your typical session length (with breaks)? 6. What module(s) would you most prefer to DM? 7. Assuming you are interested in it, how much homebrew (0-100%) do you plan to incorporate in the campaign? 8. How do you normally incorporate player backstories into the narrative? 9. Do you have any special house rules you bring to the table? 10. How lenient/strict are you on particular RAW? 11. What are your rules around character creation? 12. Do you have anything upcoming planned that would result in a hiatus of sessions that we should know about? Thank you again all!
PM sent your way!
Did send you a PM
Sent you a PM since everyone is saying so. Also I am deeply sorry for your lost of a friend
Hey hey! How are you? Sorry to hear about your previous host. Loss is hard.  I'm an improv-heavy, pro player, say yes, flexible, living narrative, collaborative kind of host familiar with 800+ systems over 20+ years of experience. I have a 0% turnover rate after the third session, a review page I'm proud and I host full-time professionally. This means, among other things, that I build my life around the tables I host, just like a brick-and-mortar job. My schedule is your schedule, as long as it doesn't conflict with an already established table. you tell me what you're looking for, and I will do my best to provide it                                                                                                                      1.  What’s your proposed cost per session? (assuming per player) I don't host per player. This takes agency away from you.  I host for 40 an hour, split across the players however works best for them                                                                                                                                                                                                     2.  What time zone do you live in?  EST.    3. Does our proposed session time of Thursday evenings for APAC East time zones work for you? (Thursday 8:30 pm AEDT (UTC +11)) Yes   4. What’s your DM style with regard to play ratio (combat/exploration/social)? About 20/40/40, though I curate up and down for different groups.    5. What is your typical session length (with breaks)? This is decided by the players, not me. That said, the average is 3 hours with a 15-minute break in the middle   6. What module(s) would you most prefer to DM? I wouldn't. Custom all the way. If you want a specific module, I'm all for it though. It's the player interest in the module, not the module itself that makes those fun.    7. Assuming you are interested in it, how much homebrew (0-100%) do you plan to incorporate in the campaign? 90% and up, effected by you   8. How do you normally incorporate player backstories into the narrative? Strongly. Parents, rivals, old haunts, home towns, local festivals, all that stuff   9. Do you have any special house rules you bring to the table? I encourage mixing and matching of skills with stats, and after 20 nat 20s you get a permanent PC upgrade. Most tables enjoy it. If you don't, we'll lose it.    10. How lenient/strict are you on particular RAW? Up to you, but my opening stance is RAW doesn't make the session, the players do   11. What are your rules around character creation? Like...starting dice? Do whatever. I have groups that do 4d6 drop low, or 2d6+3, or point buy...whatever. Race class banning? Not this guy.   12. Do you have anything upcoming planned that would result in a hiatus of sessions that we should know about? No
1. What’s your proposed cost per session? (assuming per player) $26 USD. 2. What time zone do you live in? Eastern Standard Time 3. Does our proposed session time of Thursday evenings for APAC East time zones work for you? (Thursday 8:30 pm AEDT (UTC +11)) 4:30AM Thursdays EST works for me. 4. What’s your DM style with regard to play ratio (combat/exploration/social)? My personal style includes a balanced ratio of each but more importantly, it rarely involves prolonged leaning on a single pillar. 5. What is your typical session length (with breaks)? 4.5 hours. +/- 1 hour. 6. What module(s) would you most prefer to DM? Any Forgotten Realms module* 7. Assuming you are interested in it, how much homebrew (0-100%) do you plan to incorporate in the campaign? My own homebrew I'm interested in developing at the moment includes spirits and constructs that are used by druids, dryads as well as magewrights and artificers to assist with their studies in arcana and nature. That being said, I would only incorporate homebrew that the whole party feels comfortable playing. Without regards to balance, attempting to incorporate too much homebrew is a recipe to unbalance whatever story you're trying to tell. 8. How do you normally incorporate player backstories into the narrative? I don't always. Not every player I play with writes up a connecting and meaningful backstory. However, if character creation and world-building/setting expectations are discussed at length and built upon over the course of a few sessions, I could see myself writing a custom narrative that helps loop in all of the characters and their backstories. What's important here to me as a DM is that the backstories are the players' opportunities to invest themselves deeper into the setting and world rather than load up their character with more power through the acquisition of feats and free spells. 9. Do you have any special house rules you bring to the table? I like to give each player the ability to give each other player inspiration as well as hold up more inspiration. 10. How lenient/strict are you on particular RAW? I believe RAW is the most useful when it's applied to the most generic situations as possible. Read a different way, RAW triumphs when we can't easily or feasibly create a better alternative. 11. What are your rules around character creation? Typically: a. Bonus feat at level 1 b. Point buy for ability scores c. Common magic item or background gold/trinket d. Forgotten Realms classes/races and lore-appropriate backgrounds 12. Do you have anything upcoming planned that would result in a hiatus of sessions that we should know about? No. Questions I'm interested to see answered: 1. How would you describe your party's dynamic? 2. How would you describe your party's approach to homebrew? 3. What kind of DM are you looking for personality/behavior-wise? 4. What kinds of homebrew does the group mostly deal in? (Added or expanded settings, added NPC/Outsider/Gods, added religious sects, added secret societies, additional race features or class features, magic items, weapons, armor, crafting, etc...?)
Thank you to all who applied. This position has now been filled
