LFP - [Yu-gi-oh!, D6 RPG] Card Games and Ancient Magic? What more could you want.

Howdy everyone! Lovely to have you here. I'm looking to wrangle a few players (Ideally 2-4) to play in a Yu-Gi-Oh themed RPG!  I've seen people post similar things setting an RPG in the world and lore of the cards but this going to be something a bit different. Rather then the lore in the game, this campaign is going to be entirely based the Anime and putting you in the shoes of the protagonists! Where there will be dangers to face, puzzles to solve, ancient forces at play all the while we get a healthy dose of a children's card game! I have run a campaign like this before, simple characters with very rudimentary stats, you're going to be humans afterall, but you'll each get to make a deck and duel rather then partake in combat encounters. With little abilities here and there to help keep the duels epic like the show and not have to worry too much about bricking. The ideal player is someone who loves to roleplay, there will be very little actual combat in this game, though it is always an option. You would also need to have some understanding of the Yu-Gi-Oh card game. We'll be starting in Yugioh's early days and slowly moving up in generations over the course of a generational story.  If you'd like to ask questions or are interested please get in touch! Can't wait to hear from you all.
Hello! I'm interested in this, but I'm not entirely clear on what the game is actually going to be like. I assume we'll be using some sort of virtual Yu-Gi-Oh website for the card game aspect? Would the beginning of the game limit the cards we can use to first edition cards, and would there be some sort of randomness to the cards we end up somehow acquiring or would we be picking the cards ourselves? Would we be adhering to the Yu-Gi-Oh banlist? Is it in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh, such as Duelist Island or Duelist City, or someplace new? What should we expect from character creation and what day and time would the game be played? Onto other things, my name is Flurar but you can call me Fluey and I have experience playing and making TTRPGs and I also played quite a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh against my friends online back in the last 2010s. If this game would be using the first edition cards and then evolving from there, I would probably go for something like Tea Gardener where she plays a deck full of cute Monster cards, and if we were using all cards from every generation, I'd play something similar but with a magical girl theming to her character, since while I was playing I went for Fruit Magician Girls.

Hi Fluey! Thanks for getting in touch. I'll rattle through your questions as quickly as I can. So the way I ran this before is a lot of the game was theatre of the mind, using Roll20 for imagery such as newspapers, images of the scene and of course, rolling dice. Otherwise the game will be played over discord then using a virtual Yugioh tool, likely Duelling Network simply as I have a deeper understanding of it and it allows for custom cards.  In terms of deck building, for the moment you'll have cards up until and including Flaming Eternity. I'm not going to make the cards you can use random and Banlist will be more of a guideline then an actual rule! You will also be limited to one copy of each card in your deck unless it specifically is designed to be played with multiples (We can discuss and agree during character creation), the idea is to make decks that feel like they are from the show, you will have "Destiny" powers that will help you be consistent. This also means there's no harm in putting one really powerful card that would otherwise be banned! If you're unironically planning on  running Petit Angel you may as well have a Change of Heart. As for setting, it will be the same world we grew up with in the show! So you'd be conceptually aware of some of the big celebrities, what a Kaiba-Corp is~ however we likely won't be touching any of that directly. The main setting is going to be a small collection of Islands in the Mediterranean. This is so the world can be full of new and interesting set pieces and plots while being familiar to a fan of the series.  Character creation is going to be simple, deck building will take enough time. You'll have 4 stats. Grit, Nimble, Heart and Mind. Which I'll explain better later but are essentially Physical Prowess, Physical Dexterity, Mental Prowess and Mental Dexterity. You get to assign a +2, +1, 0 and a -1 as you see fit, every skill check I will say something like "You'll need a 5." then you roll a D6 and hope. But honestly you'll only be rolling dice if something is particularly difficult or I think something interesting would happen if you failed.  Hope that answers your questions!
Hello I am interested in your game! I don't think I have to many questions your last post answered most of them far as deck goes I have a few in mind but wanted to talk to you more about them before settling on a certain deck
