Hey you! I'm posting an announcement here for an upcoming campaign, largely because it gets totally lost in the ocean of listings on the LFG tool. The Crown of the Seven Seas is a long-form, D&D 5th Edition campaign split into three acts, taking place in a seafaring, island-hopping setting homebrewed by yours truly. I'm expecting equal parts swashbuckling adventure, charismatic intrigue, and dynamic combat; with elements of survival, sailing, discovery, piracy, other crime, heroism, rebellion, monster-hunting, and more. My style has always leaned towards telling vivid and elaborate stories, and this particular campaign draws from over half a decade of worldbuilding. I'm motivated by a passion for grand stories, and I always want to create an atmosphere of excitement, emotion, and energy for my players. Who's the campaign for? There is a special seat at this table for all the Forever DM's. You deserve a chance to be a player for once, so come on in and roll your stats. More generally, I'm looking for people who want an epic adventure. People who want to start with humble beginnings, struggles and uncertainty. People who want to see their characters grow from simple civillians into true heroes as their story unfolds. If you are the type to really immerse yourself in a fantasy world, the type with a natural curiosity and desire to explore; if you feel comfortable and eager to engage in roleplay with your fellow players and the NPCs you meet—then I believe this campaign will suit you very well. My goal is to tell a story that makes you feel things, so I'm keen to fill the party with players who care. If, on the other hand, you're mainly looking to play a wargame, and don't really care for all the fluff and narrative, then I'm afraid I can't recommend this one! Why P2P? This game encourages tipping the Game Master at a rate of < however much you feel comfortable with and however much you think a session was worth, via PayPal (probably), per session >. Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. With that official disclaimer out of the way, here's my take: I've held off on running any pay-to-play campaigns ever since the feature was first introduced to Roll20, as I've considered this more of a passionate hobby than a job. I've also wanted to attract talented, creative, engaged players much more than just anyone with coin in their pocket—and honestly, I'm still not sure how I feel about the weird power dynamic implications that come with P2P. However, over the years, creative writing (and content creation in general) has cemented itself as something I want to commit a lot of time and effort to, and I want a chance to build this up into something legitimate. Therefore I'm opening a dialogue around accepting tips. The goal here is to invest what I get right back into the campaign; to develop art, maps, music and sound effects, writing, and overall production quality. So if at the end of a session you feel really happy with your experience, you want to help me make it even better, and you can comfortably afford to, then feel free to send me a tip. It is never a requirement, nor will it earn preferential treatment. Any Requirements? My goal is to run a smooth, exciting campaign that you'll be eager to stick with, so there are a few basic things that I kindly ask of anyone looking to join: The game is 18+ Please have a good grasp of the English language, both written and spoken; I can translate between English, Finnish, and Swedish, and I'm sure other players may bring other languages along, but the game is going to run in English Please have the necessary technicals to facilitate a good experience for everyone; I'm talking decent PC, microphone, internet connection etc. Please help me foster a respectful atmosphere; attend sessions on time, communicate if you're going to miss a session, allow other players their time to roleplay and engage, don't discriminate or antagonize, and try to minimize distractions like noisy surroundings or multitasking while you play Tabletop/D&D5E/roleplay/acting experience is recommended; we're going for some more ambitious narrative and storytelling here, and the less we are distracted by things like rules discussions, the better My goal is to run regular, weekly sessions; date & time is adjustable based on people's timezones and schedules Okay, how do I apply? You can contact me either in the discussion below, on the LFG page, or by messaging me directly. Please tell me a bit about yourself, your experience level, your timezone/availability, and a fond memory of something a previous DM did that you really liked. Thanks for reading!
