Elijah Moon, proprietor of the Desert Rose motel knows this fact and he set up shop on a trade route. Everything was as good as it gets until three days ago when his latest guests disappeared from their rooms. Meanwhile, a posse of heroes headed back to Junkyard, the last free city in the Wasted West, is caught in a Black Rain storm and needs to hole up quick. Their next stop..The Desert Rose motel. In this one shot, you'll be taking shelter from a storm and investigating the events at the Desert Rose. What is Deadlands: Hell on Earth? In the most basic terms, players take on the roles of survivor heroes in a world full of monsters, mutants, misfits, magic, and motorized mayhem. Your posse roams the Wasted West, righting wrongs and taking out bad guys in the hope of a brighter tomorrow. The vibe is Mad Max + Fallout + Resident Evil + Monsters. It is a unique system featuring card-based initiative, distinct arcane backgrounds, poker chips for rerolls and damage mitigation, and an XP system based on improving skills and abilities instead of leveling. Players have a direct effect on the world through the Tale-Tellin' mechanic which lowers the fear level in an area based on stories of their deeds. Everyone is a survivor and will have appropriate skills but there are also arcane backgrounds such as Templars (Post nuclear knights wielding magic swords), Sykers (Bald veterans of an alien war who can use mental powers), Junkers (Inventors who can talk to tech spirits to build amazing devices from scrap), and Doomsayers (Mutant radiation priests with powers of the Glow). Other Archetypes (classes) include Road Warriors (Couriers with armed and armored vehicles), Gunslingers (Mercenaries for hire), Savages (Tribals born after Judgement Day and taught to kill monsters with whatever weapon is at hand) and many more. Its up to YOU to decide which style of monster killing, town rescuing hero fits best. First hour is Session Zero/character creation. I will provide all materials for playing. While this is a one-shot to teach folks my favorite setting, I am open to a longer campaign if there's interest. Thanks for reading and happy gaming. About me: I'm 48, based in Arkansas.
