3/6 seats available. System: Dungeons and Dragons 5e Adventure Description: Wanted: Able-bodied adventurers to help with transport of supplies to Phandalin! Competitive compensation, getting to work outside, and a small risk of danger. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get paid to see the frontier! Anyone willing and able are encouraged to apply in person at Rockseeker Expeditions, Inc. this week. Open interviews will be held until all positions have been filled. Lost Mine of Phandelver is an introductory D&D campaign designed to teach new players how to play. It will take the players from level 1 to level 5, teach you the tactical components of combat, roleplay, exploration, and the joys of collaborative storytelling. Because that’s what D&D is, it’s working together as a group to tell a story about the party of adventurers and have a fun time doing it. The campaign starts when Gundren Rockseeker, one of three dwarven brothers seeking the fabled Wave Echo Cave, hires the party to bring a wagonload of supplies to Phandalin. The frontier town is filled with rumors of danger, people looking in need of help, and a small problem of its own. Opportunity abounds to strike it rich, become a hero of renown, and make your mark on history. Are you up to the challenge? Or will the dangers of the frontier claim you like so many others before? The campaign comes with premade characters, which you are free to use. If you’d like to create your own character from scratch, I can totally help you find the mechanics/rules to do it in a way that best fits your concept. This campaign will be placing the classic starter campaign “Lost Mine of Phandelver” within my custom campaign setting that I’ve been running campaigns in for years. This sets us up to interact with the other players and characters in the world, building on each other’s stories and connecting storylines to explore the world of Thabreus. Campaign theme/premise The campaign will start with the classic Lost Mine of Phandelver, helping your employer locate and reopen the fabled mine. Along the way, you’ll help the small frontier town of Phandalin overcome some challenges it’s been facing and (hopefully) expose a plot by a sinister secret organization. Once you solve (or don’t) the immediate problem, the campaign will enter full swing. At this point, the campaign will be fully custom written for you, your characters, and the custom campaign environment of Thabreus. The campaign is planned to be a mix of all three pillars of play (social, exploration, and combat), with the time spent doing each getting dictated by the actions of the PC’s. The idea is for everyone to have fun, so we’ll spend more time doing the parts that the players want to do. Campaign Duration/Frequency of Sessions/Etc. - Sessions will be weekly, Thursdays from 12-3 pm (central time). - The campaign will start at level 1 and continue until we reach a satisfying conclusion. The first arc (the Lost Mine of Phandelver module) should see characters advance to level 5, with the goal to finish at the end of the summer. - We will use Roll20 for character sheets, maps, etc., Discord will be used for video/audio. Campaign Environment Thabreus is a homebrew world of my own creation. Think Terry Pratchett meets Forgotten Realms level of fantasy. The pantheon is wide open because the gods of Thabreus are powered by belief. If you believe in a deity, it will exist (even if it is very weak because you’re the only one who believes in them). It is a living world, which means your actions (or inaction) have consequences. NPC's keep moving even if you aren't interacting with them. The campaign will take place in the Nardraz region, a tropical rainforest on the equator filled with a bunch of independent towns, settlements, cities, culture, etc. The major city in the area is extremely metropolitan, kind of like if New York City were sitting at the mouth of the Amazon river. This means that all kinds of races show up and are available for PC’s to choose from. DM info: I'm the kind of GM with the primary goal of everyone having a good time. I run character focused and narrative driven stories, and LOVE working with my players to see what kind of hijinks they can get up to. I write most of the adventures and all of the overall campaigns I run so that they can really focus on my players' characters. If you're a new player who wants to experience what a homebrew world can be, or even a grizzled veteran who wants to get away from the typical canned campaign, I'm the DM for you! Collaborative Storytelling: The idea is to tell a story in which everyone contributes. I consider myself a “yes, and” or “no, but” kind of guy. The idea is for everyone to have fun telling a collaborative story, and I’m going to do everything I can to help you do your thing. Player Agency: It is extremely important. The PC's are the main characters, which means your decisions MATTER in terms of what happens in the world and how NPC's view you. I'm not going to force you down a path. Pricing/Scheduling: Session 0 will always be free. Session 0 will cover the basics of the campaign, what you’d like to see, what you’d rather NOT see, and character creation. A detailed outline of Session 0 is available on the Startplaying site. If you find that the campaign isn’t for you during session 0, we’re totally cool with parting ways as friends. We’re all here to have a good time, and that will be our priority. This game will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of $20/session via Startplaying.games. Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. We've already got one player (and she's awesome to boot!)
Phandalin A small frontier town in the Duchy of Castine. Originally a prosperous human settlement outside of Wave Echo Cave. It was razed to the ground when the barbarian hordes invaded in 5,488 P.C. and has been rebuilt several times since and is now a rough and tumble frontier town frequented by adventurers, prospectors, and other hardscrabble folk who like to make it on their own. Do you have what it takes to live there?
The Duchy of Castine The Duchy of Castine was an independent state until it fell to a barbarian invasion from the west around 5,500 P.C. Primarily composed of humans, but with a significant population of dwarves and rock gnomes. Most of the noble houses were human, but dwarven and gnomish families were also counted among the nobility. Many mages were found among the Castinites, especially among the humans.

We've got us a second! One more and we'll be good to roll! Session 0 is Thursday (5/16), 12-3 central time. We'll get a feel for each other, make sure we're all on the same page about things we're cool with and things we'd rather not have, and then we'll get rolling right into the campaign! #ItWillBeFun
Will your character join one of the factions in the region? Or will they stay soley affiliated with the party and Rockseeker Expeditions, Inc.? What factions could they join? That's a great question! The most relevant factions are described in the Player Primer, but here's the basic rundown Lord's Alliance : A group that seeks to restore the former glory of the Duchy of Castine, bringing order and prosperity to the region that has been sorely lacking since the barbarian invasion 500 years ago. Corarane Hustlers, Import specialists, and Contract Killers Employment Network (C.H.I.C.K.E.N.) : A group of for hire adventurers and mercenaries, able and willing to hire out to whoever has gold. They seek to support each other in their quest for independence and almighty gold. The Watchers : An order primarily of druids, rangers, and other like minded individuals. They seek to maintain the balance between civilization and nature, all while keeping an eye out for intrusions from the Far Realm. The Untouchables : A secret organization that seeks to keep those in power from abusing their power. If a dangerous group or individual gets too powerful, they make sure they don't stay in power. By any means necessary. And those aren't all! Swing on by or shoot me a DM if you've got questions about the Thabreus, the world the campaign will take place in.
If you're looking for a game for the summer, this is going to be a GREAT option! We're looking to wrap up the Lost Mine of Phandelver module by the time fall semester starts for folks. If there are enough players that wish to continue the story with a custom campaign based on your backstories and the decisions you've made so far at that point, that option is totally open but not required to hop in on the first arc.
We've got us a third player, so we're going! Session O (and starting the campaign) is tomorrow (5/23) @ Noon central time. #ItWillBeFun
