roll20 unplayably slow

Today, 11 April 2013, Roll20 has been unplayably slow. Everything takes forever, clicking on a tab, trying to move an icon, etc.

Drake, I am sorry to hear you have having difficulty. I have a few questions. Have there been any recent changes to the campaign? Is this the first time you have used your campaign since the recent update? Finally, could you PM me with a join link? I would like to take a look. - Gauss
No changes in the campaign since 2 days ago... I don't know when your last update was. We login nearly every day to check things and update sheets and macros. It was perfectly fast on Sunday through Tuesday this week. I did not login on Wednesday (10 April) so I do not know if it was OK then or not. There is the link. So far two of us who tried logging in today noticed the severe slowdown, and we are far enough away we have different network routes, and so on. Both of us use Windows, one Vista, I use 7. I also use a Mac but its currently busy so I cannot test with that. We are running Chrome browser on all machines, except the players who use Firefox I believe. Have not heard from the players yet. Oh, I also should mention that another campaign we are working on, friend's account, is also very slow, so it seems to be all of our current campaigns, not just the one linked above. Tomorrow evening I should have some time to debug if you want me to do anything. Thanks.

I have deleted the link and entered the campaign. Please promote me to GM so I can look around. I will be available tomorrow night as well.  - Gauss

Now have tested with Windows Vista and Chrome, Windows 7 and Chrome, Apple OSX and Chrome, Apple OSX and Safari. All of them are unusably slow. 3 different machines, two different users in different states.

Which map is being lagged? I checked your campaign and I am not being lagged on any map. - Gauss

Never mind, I found the problem. When you hit 7d10r<10 it spammed the chat log with a massive roll. It is causing the lag. When that scrolls off of the chat log it should clear up. If you go into your settings and remove the checkmark for "Enable advanced dice" it will mitigate the problem somewhat until it scrolls off of the history. If you want a quicker route you can copy your campaign without the chat log. That will remove the problem immediately. Also, a bug report has been filed regarding this issue. - Gauss
I wondered about those huge rules. Unfortunately some of those exploding rolls are necessary. One idea might be if there are a lot of explodes, maybe condense the report... after a point having all of the re-rolls isn't helpful anyway. What happens is on rolls where you say roll d6 and toss out any roll below a certain number. Those can explode huge. Thanks for the help.

Well, a 7d10r<10 will reroll everything (all dice will be rerolled) and I really cannot see a game that will do that since it would make the dice roll a moot issue. The problem with rerolling everything is that it creates the maximum possible dice before the dice roller says no more (999 if I remember correctly) and when combined with an image of each die (advanced dice feature) that requires a lot of video processing power.  In any case, it should not come up in normal rerolls (such as rerolling 8, 9, and 10) since normal rerolls have a very small chance of hitting so many dice that lag is created. But, if you do have a reroll point which is likely to produce too many results then I suggest turning off the advanced dice feature until the bug is fixed. - Gauss
Hey there Gauss, I am a sub GM in his campaign and my campaign was the other suffering  the crippling lag (similar roll by the same player *glances at Drake G.*).  We both did campaign copies and as you indicated it immediately fixed the issue.  I just wanted to thank you as well for the effort and the fix and another nod for the other issues you have helped me with in my Harn campaign.  Many thanks!  I do have a question regarding this; in a long campaign rolls will accumulate in the log and the occasional player will roll say 7d10<10 *glances at Drake G.*, so i wonder if a GM button, say on settings tab, could be added to dump the chat log with or without options for types of chat? Again - Many Thanks!
Some of the rolls in another campaign were not errors like that, they were legitimate exploding rolls and its just a fact they can go a few lines. However, usually you are talking about well under 50, so maybe just setting the roll limit lower than 999 would do it. On a real table, you handle it by picking up the die and tossing them again until you get what you want. In the game it shows every single roll. I don't think we even used advanced dice features, didn't even know what it was until just now. Turning it off for now just in case. Thanks again.

Cahnwyr, that would be up to the Devs. Perhaps you should make a suggestion. - Gauss

This should be fixed now. Please let me know if the problem happens again.  - Gauss
(Note that this is only fixed on Dev, it should be fixed in the next update on Main in a couple of days).
Outstanding.  Thank You so much!
Thanks a bunch. We were thinking about Shadowrun and its love for huge dice pools which could have caused this to give us some grief if we wanted the advanced dice.
