Why can't I turn off Nametags?

I run a game and have long since had all my players' tokens set up so that everyone can see each other's character's nametags, but I want to run an encounter with a bunch of doppelgangers, and thought it would be fun to temporarily turn off their ability to see nametags, so that when the doppelgangers start shapechanging into copies of them (using double-sided tokens), the battlefield map will quickly become a confusing mess where they have to guess at who is who. But the problem I am running into is that I apparently CANNOT just turn off either the Nametag or the ability for others to See the nametags on the tokens... if I uncheck those boxes and Save the Settings, when I look inside the token again, it has just reset itself to the defaults and those boxes are re-checked, and everyone can see each other's nametags again. I don't even have to pull a new token onto the map for this to happen; if I so much as look away from the token, it has reset itself. What is the point of having those boxes to check if they can't be unchecked? Do I literally have to make the changes, then go into all their character sheets, hit Edit and save the new (unnamed) token as the Default? Or is there some trick I'm missing?

Hi Shard,  The most likely culprit is a Mod (API Script). Are you running any? And if so, which ones? I seem to remember there is a Mod that has this sort of side effect.  Alternately, are you running any extensions?

Hi Shard! This sounds like a very common problem with the Aura/Tint Health Colors script. It has a number of unrelated functions built in, and one of them controls nameplate visibility. If you are running this script, type !AURA in chat and follow the prompts to change this behavior.

That was indeed the culprit, nice catch!
