GI JOE RPG Interest check

I just got the GI Joe RPG. Doing an interest check before I get too much into it. The game will be Sunday afternoons, TBD on time.  Here is what i have for a test run-- Game premise. 6 years ago the Joes captured Cobra Commander during a mission. A power vacuum destroyed what was left of Cobra and Cobra high command went their own way. Cobra Commander is being held in a mobile prison guarded by Joes. The train was attacked and Cobra Commender is free to cause chaos. Who is responsible? How did they know where to strike? What is ole snake Face's n ext move?
Meet send me an? IM, and let's talk character creation.
I'm co-GMing a rotating GM group for this system and it's been a lot of fun so far.  Between our four GMs that run episodic format adventures, we're seeing a lot of variety in story telling styles.  Are you going for something real and gritty like the old comics?  Or absurdist like you would find in the old cartoon show?  Is it a shared universe where you can acknowledge the Transformers cross over books?  So much story telling potential. 1)  Generally speaking, it seems like you need at least a d4 in any skill if you want to be remotely effective at it.  (Or you need to really min / max that skill up with max skill ranks and other bonuses that push you past the d12 cap into the realm of 2d8 or 3d6 for your skill dice.) 2)  All players need to invest in a melee skill.  Might OR Finesse.  Far too many scenes have put the players in situations where they don't have their guns or can't blindly fire their guns in a crowded public situation. My only warning for GMs entering hostile combatant stat blocks is that some of the NPC opposition stat blocks are suspect.  More specifically, the ones that you can find in their adventures.  Often the numbers in their monster manual entries don't completely add up.  They might get bonus skill points for free skill specializations.  Or their Health / Defense doesn't match their stats and gear.  It's always good to check the math of the skill points vs ability scores.

I might be able to jump in depending on timing. I am in Pacific time. I recently inquired with a different group about joining a game that starts at 9 pm Pacific on Sundays but they haven't responded yet, so I don't know if that would be a conflict. I don't own the game currently, but have heard good things about it, and would be willing to pick up a copy if need be. I have played some 5e (D&D and Everyday Heroes).  Edit: Picked up a physical copy at a local store, should be all set. Never heard back regarding the other Sunday night thing I was looking into, so it shouldn't be an issue as long as the game isn't too early in the day for me.
thanks for the advice eric. yea im thinking gritty like the comic books. no transformer or other crossovers.
This sounds like a lot of fun. I'd totally be down to be a Joe, hahaha
I just found this post. Did anything ever materialize out if this thread.  I would love to participate as a player or GM.
I had to put in on the back burner for now. I may put something together in the next month for a saturday game
I've had some experience. GMing and also playing. I'd love to do either for this
