Player who quit still appearing in player dropdown

September 18 (10 years ago)
I'e had this issue for a while now, a player who's quit my campaign on their own is stuck in the dropdown of players for pretty much everything, and I cannot get rid of their name.

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similiar issue, and solved it somehow, I'm pretty much out of ideas for how to fix it.

It's a known bug or inconvenience.

The moderator Gauss has explained it best. If I can try to sum up his advice, I believe you can get rid of the old names by Copying the entire campaign to a new campaign BUT there is a poor tradeoff where you lose certain player settings when you Copy the campaign, and those player settings would have to be re-done on the new copy. Unless you really need to get rid of those names, it seems the best approach is just ignore and look past those names.

Those names should be only showing up on the Dropdown menu for assigning a Token or Journal-Handout to Players. It's only seen by the GM. The name doesn't appear in any places that the Players typically see.

This bug was recently fixed (will no longer occur when people quit campaigns) but that did not resolve any of the existing 'ghosts'.

As Gold mentioned, you can copy the campaign and uncheck the "Players and Player Settings" box.
However, everyone in the campaign will lose any Macros (the settings tab Macros, not Ability macros).
You will also have to re-invite everyone to the campaign and then reconnect everyone to their assets (tokens etc).

If you ask nicely, a Dev might be willing to pop into your campaign and remove the offending listing manually. It worked for me...

It would be nice if there was an option to kill those ghosts without copying the whole campaign, there's too much stuff in it to even copy it , between decks, characters, maps and other such things, copying fails every time.

Kai, when you get a notice that the campaign failed to copy it may still have duplicated the campaign but not finished by loading you into it. Make sure you check your campaign list to see if it copied.

If it is not successfully copied please file a bug report with the campaign details page.

It copies the campaign, but there is no content in it when I load into it.

https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/72342/tales-of-the-void-d20 They don't appear outside the dropdowns in game though.

Kai, my concern is that you cannot copy your campaign. I will forward this to the Devs to see if there is a problem with your campaign preventing it from being copied.

Coul it be because of sheer size? that was ym guess, sicne there are many rather large maps and such.

I have this problem as well for my TSES campaign - would love to get rid of the old names as I have had several cycle through.

Black Falcon, as previously mentioned the only way to get rid of the old names is to copy your campaign without the players and player settings.

That's a really poor way of cleaning up ghost names.... there really should be a way that doesn't erase all the player's settigns and such...

What players do you need removed? I can do it manually for you. As Gauss said, this bug is fixed so it won't happen in the future.

the player ghost in question comes up as Glendening in the dropdown.

It still seems to be happening for me - i duplicated a campaign then kicked the duplicated players, but they still appear in the drop downs.

Kenny, could you explain what you mean by "duplicated players"? It sounds like a different problem.
