For a character proposal, I will need at least the following: race and class, OUT, an idea of what backgrounds you plan to take (exact numerical breakdown not necessary), and a short history of your character, including details of whatever you did that landed you in prison. When writing your history, please remember that only criminals who have seriously offended against the law get sent to Branderscar, so make sure your crimes are appropriately lurid. Not enough: Knifing a bartender during a tavern brawl, stealing from the poorbox at a village temple, or just being a worshipper of Asmodeus. More like it: Murdering a well-liked nobleman in cold blood, stealing the entire altar service from a large temple and melting it down, or leading a cult of Asmodeus and flagrantly invoking the powers of darkness. All published 13th Age material is permissible. This includes 13 True Ways, as well as races from the Midgard Bestiary. If you want to use homebrewed or fan-made material, such as from the Vault of the 13th Age, please include a link so I can consider it. Remember, if you don't have the rulebook, you can still use 13thagesrd.com . Monstrous PC races, such as gnolls, orcs, and hobgoblins, as well as traditionally evil races such as drow are acceptable. However, you will need to explain how it happened that your character was imprisoned in Branderscar instead of being killed out of hand. Evil humanoids do not usually get the benefit of the justice system in Talingarde. (Note that being a race identifiable as evil on sight would normally be suicidal in a game world like this, but there will be workarounds to ensure you can participate without constantly drawing angry mobs.) Starting gold is 0, and you have no starting gear. All your money and equipment was taken when you were imprisoned; weapons and armor were confiscated, and your spellbooks, wands, holy symbols, and all other items have been destroyed. If you have a pet, familiar, or animal companion, it has been driven away or banished. You may use point-buy or roll stats (4d6, drop lowest, arrange to suit -- use an online roller like dicelog.com or Invisible Castle and send a link to your results). The Icons will not be used for this game, as they don't fit the gameworld or themes. Do not take any traits, powers, talents, or feats that relate to icon relationships, such as the bard's Balladeer or the sorcerer's Blood Link talents. (You can still take sorcerer heritages that mention the Icons; we'll just reskin those.) Wizards can choose spells at the start of the game but cannot change them until they get their hands on a spellbook. Clerics, paladins, and other religious types will likely be devotees of Asmodeus, the chief evil god of this setting. Domains appropriate for Asmodeus include Trickery/Illusion, Justice/Vengeance, and War/Leadership, as well as the Abyss/Corruption and Egoism/Evil/Betrayal domains from this link: http://13thage.org/index.php/abilities/459-clerical-expansion . If you wish to worship a different evil deity, please mention it in your submission.
