[LFP] [Free] [5.5e] New and veteran players welcome. One Shot testing new rules!

Come join our one or two shot game to give out the new rules a try out. We meet on Saturdays 1pm pst and usually play for about 3 hours. We are playing a homebrew campaign as well and who knows you might be a good fit for that as well (:  I have been DMing for 7 years and have a great record of amazing games that are seen through to the end. I have created a safe space to everyone to express themselves and enjoy role playing without judgment or toxic environment. Just reply here and please include how long you've been playign and what ideas you'd have for a character. Also include a short background in about a paragraph or two. Cheers!
Hi Garrett! I am brand new to d&d (the 'listened to some podcasts and am very interested but have never played a game' kind of new) I'd really like to get my feet wet, which may not be what you are looking for, but I figured what the heck, I might as well inquire lol... I am big into fantasy and am an avid ren faire goer and am looking to develop my costume into a character by stepping her into d&d; after reading most of the handbook I feel like she translates well to the world. I don't know much about the landscapes and maps of d&d, so I will keep it vague as far as that goes until I learn more 😅. This is what I was hoping to explore at some point- if it works for your story, dope, if not, totally get it and would be open to developing a different character. Xandrii is an elven druid with somewhat eclectic interests and tastes. Bookworm, wanderer, and notorious trinket horder, she is very young for an elf, but has spent her time studying anything and everything related to plants and magic. Her elven roots lend a distinct connection to nature and natural magics, but she is insatiably curious, resulting in the study of alternative (arcane) methods of spellcraft. Her youth leads her to follow her whims and draws out her instinct to negotiate or flee in the event that someone has a conflict with her. She only truly steps into herself and her skills however when she finds herself in a position where she needs to defend others. She in past has lacked confidence in her abilities, primarily focused on the scholastic merit and less so on the actual use of the spells and skills she has learned, but is determined to remedy that and sets out seeking adventure. Thanks! Please let me know if you would need anything else from me!
Hi Garrett Love to try out the new rules with you and it sounds like your game is a perfect opportunity to take them for a whirl.  In terms of experience, I've played through Original, 2E, 3E, 3.5E, Pathfinder 1st, and 5E, running and writing games for UK games cons as part of the TSR programme back in the 90's. Nowadays I run a 5E game on Friday evenings every fortnight, and play in a monthly tabletop game in person (which is on hiatus thanks to real life). As for a character, I'll suggest someone to work with Xandrii, Purity Wilbrook is a bounty hunter and forest gnome. He has trained as a member of the Greenspire woodland rangers and enjoys the company of all sylvans and fey. Purity dislikes the dark and civilisation but can venture alongside his companions when a quarry heads towards a town or city. A survivalist at heart, he believes that civilisation is going to cause its own downfall thanks to the greed and ambition of the inhabitants. Master Wilbrook's pride and joy are a well-crafted bow and pair of supple leather boots from his parents given on the day he passed out of the Greenoaks as a fully fledged Ranger. For much of his spare time, Purity crafts and names his various arrows made from the feathers of his prey.
Hai hai Garret! I'm Soso (pronounced Sozo) and I've been playing 5e ever since the early 2010s I want to say. Friend of mine invited me to a game that was needing a player. Had never seen D&D before but it sounded fun and I agreed. Fast forward a couple years and I've been playing 5e ever since hehe. That being said, never tried 5.5e, or truthfully even knew it existed until I saw this post. I'm very curious to try out the new system and learn as I go.  As far as character goes I have a funny homebrew idea I've been itching to play, and reading along with Xandrii and Frenchie's characters I actually think she would be a good match. Layila Nayilo was a dire wolf, she still is at heart. She wandered the wild by herself which was strange for dire wolves. Her home was a  swampy grove, effectively an archipelago separated by large rivers as opposed to ocean. Each individual "island" was too small to fully support a pack, so in her local habitat the wolves spread out. Each dominating their respective territory, only congregating during mating season. One day, a group of poachers ambushed this congregation. The battle was long and bloody, but in the end Layila stood alone amidst the corpses of poachers and wolves alike. She was too wounded to leave and so fed on the poachers while she recuperated. By sheer coincidence, one of the poachers had been carrying a cursed ring, wearing it as a necklace (no I swear this is not a LoTR reference lmao). A few days later, as Layila ate, the ring became lodged on one of her canines, which technically counted as wearing it. In a swift blinding flash, Layila had transformed to a human. The only remaining trace of her canid origin were her fangs, which remained elongated to host the cursed ring. She stumbled and struggled, confused. The world a sudden cacophony of colours she'd never seen. Her once sharp nose and ears felt dull. And she struggled to stand and move as she once did. The blinding flash had caught the attention of a search party, whom had been looking for the missing poachers. They came to the bloody scene and assumed Layila to be the sole survivor among the poachers. She growled and snapped at the search party, but was quickly subdued with magic. The party assuming she'd gone mad from the tragedy. She was brought to a nearby village's healer and given her name "Layila Nayilo", which was a name plate found at the site from one of the poachers, the only feminine name. They assumed it belonged to her, and left her the poacher's belongings. Sorry for the long paragraph. ADHD kinda kept me writing more than I needed to. But yes TLDR. Layila is a dire wolf who got transformed into a human by a cursed ring and now has to adapt to her new life as a human. I've been wanting to play this for a bit. Starting out dumb, fearful, illiterate. Motivated purely by survival and food to begin with. Then slowly learning over time to speak, communicate, understand more complex social structures. Bonding with the party as time goes on. Considering them a pack at first, a more familiar concept, then again as she learns holding them in equal regards. Then along the line having her make a decision based on character growth on whether she'd want to turn back into a wolf, or if after everything she experiences after learning, she wishes to remain a human.
