How do I tile a backgrund

Hey, i am just trying to make my first map and failing with the basics. how do I tile a background image? This help video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgBgQ9gsEiI talks about an "orange hanlde" but there isn't any orange or green handle on my backgrund image. any idea what might go wrong? Thanks

That video appears to be with a much older version of Roll20. The delete button when hovering over the page selection is one indicator of that. I don't know when or why this tiling-resize handle was removed, though.

Hmm. Is there any other way to tile then? Currently I have been copying and pasting but that is cumbersome.
The best option would actually be, if one could make the tiles the same as the background color and NOT part of the background/objects layer. It is a pretty big pain having objects disappear behind the tiles once I send them to the back or to accidentally move the background tiles.

I've been here two years and I haven't ever seen that orange box method. This must be a video from near the start of Roll20. At this time the best method is to copy/paste your tiles. Regarding your problem with the tiles being on the background/objects layer, I am not sure I understand the problem. Could you go into more detail?
Thanks for the reply. I guess what I am saying is that it is unfortunate, that the objects layer and the background layer are one layer. First, I have a map with a bunch of tiles covering the entire map ( I copied and pasted them). It would now be nice to be able to add objects without touching those tiles anymore (i.e. have them in a separate layer) I started adding objetcs but as soon as there is one object that I want to have behind another one and I "send it to the back", it will be sent behind all the tiles and I then have to send all the tiles individually to the back. I guess one quick fix would be after tiling the image to group the entire set of tiles so at least it is one object that can be moved quicker. In Maptools, the background tiles can be set on the same level as the background color (in the settings of the map). That way, they are independent of the objects layer. That solution or having an extra layer would be great.
Gah, I want that tiling tool back!!

Aaron, what I do is I place my pieces on a different layer (such as the GM layer) and then send them to the map layer when they are positioned. That way I don't have problems with accidentally moving them.
Hmm O.K. good suggestion. I might try that next time I want to make a map without getting too involved. Thanks
yep, what he said, build on the token layer, then when you have what you want surround it and send to map, I try not to fool around on the actual map layer, a little miss click and the whole thing can get messed up. Big backgrounds you drop to the map layer and they will keep their native resolution, everything on the token layer starts out small, you can change it to a drawing, or leave it as a token if you want to make it grid sized, or hold down the alt key and you can move, rotate and size it any way you want, but release the mouse button first or it will revert to token size and alignment.
Coolio, I will try that next time. It also seems that a few people actually resort to outside programs to make their entire map layer (e.g. GIMP or illustrator/photoshop like programs). In general though, I like the idea better to do it all inhouse. Then one can change details quickly during play without uploading the entire map again. Also that way, I can use the nice online library. I will see what I will end up doing. Thanks for all the tips A
