Looking to run mature themed horror games for regular groups on Sunday evenings about 6:30pm PST time to 10:30. Starting off with several Kult: Divinity Lost one shots, as storytelling focused urban and cosmic horror. Next, might do a campaign for Vampire: The Dark Ages (Anniversary Ed) set between the dynamics of Jerusalem and Constantinople in the 1300s. Always free games, just require voice and video, as my GM style for horror works best for me that way. Will not be escapist, or power fantasy styled games. Will also for campaigns always do session zeros, and yes will be part interviews of players to gauge ability to abide by things like 'Horror Contracts", cooperativeness to group story tell, and maturity and emotional fit for the genre and game themes. Please message me via here if interested in participating. My Storytelling Style: Mechanics wise my rule of thumb is, does it matter, or will it add a twist to things happening in the game? Yes, then let's have a dice roll. No, let's just get along with it and say you succeed within reason. When running Kult, I love leaning on the Tarot deck, and working with players to interpret a reading with how it will matter for their characters and the story. I do 'Horror Contracts" and utilize direct message red, yellow, green cards for players to call for empathy and pause when broaching a topic in game that may be sensitive for them. I prefer to let things go where they should, for best outcome of a horror themed game, which means helping players buy in to letting things like a character death not just happen, but matter to the story (No, do not advocate for the dice saying so character death like some AD&D 2ed rules lawyer). Like life, the point of when I run a horror game is not to be happy, I do not manipulate for a 'good ending' to happen for its own sake, just the ending that best serves the story and theme the players have fostered and be as entertaining an outcome as the group can arrive at (and in horror games, that sometimes means being a bit emotionally conflicted about endings, in a good and engaged way). Will be up front. If you are in a mental and emotional place, where you bring that into the game space, you will not be a fit for the games I run. It is not a matter of inclusivity; it is a matter of you are likely not in a good place with your selfcare and therapy to be participating in an exploration of dread and horror as a form of entertainment and group social activity, and I don't wish to be (nor do other players I suspect) a voyeur to someone acting out their inner unresolved traumas or inflicting a degree of consequence of them on others. Sorry, not sorry, this is a matter of healthy boundary setting for everyone participating.
