EDIT: I'm gonna keep this open for applications till the end of the year probably and then afterwards start organizing interviews. Give more air time for folks to see the topic and think up character ideas. I see everyone's messages, jus make sure to leave a discord username so I can reach out to you when the time comes. FINAL EDIT!!!: Gonna stop accepting applicants after the 1st of January 2025 , Happy New Year!!! So if interested make sure to send me a private message or leave a message on this topic. Interviews will commence afterwards. Hi, Hello Roll20 Members. I’m looking to recruit 2-3 new players to join my group for a new campaign I’m planning to run in the New Year. Obviously, it’s still in development and I very much like to incorporate my player characters into the story and hopefully weave them in naturally and satisfyingly which would help me progress things a bit. I have a select list of allowed races specific to the setting. I want to keep to recognized source material and use the new 2024 rules for this game. So, the gist, I’m developing an Urban Fantasy Noir Campaign with a focus on Mystery and Investigation, Social Intrigue and classic Tommy Gun shootouts with gangs. The setting will be a single location, a city called New Arcana, where players can traverse the city sandbox-style. I’m trying to hone into the themes of Noir specifically those of the Hardboiled Detective variety. So, the physical style of 1930-1940s New York, but make it fantasy. I love how noir protagonists are ambiguous morally and often self-destructive, and not always guaranteed a happy ending. We could see how these arcs play out, maybe your characters can overcome their darkness, or maybe fall to a city already steeped in darkness… In terms of what I already have, two of my players, whom I met here on roll20 and have proven to be great friends, one is wanting to play an Artificer Autognome and the other is feeling Warlock with ties to gambling. These ideas are still early on, but I’d like to minimize overlap. Again, things we’d sort at later stages. We're a group that has been playing together for about 2-3 years now, so I hope whoever joins us is comfortable joining a pre-established group o' friends, but we're a friendly bunch so you'd be welcome. We play with the GMT zone, normally on Tuesdays 17:00 – 20:00. Were an English-speaking group due to our locations and being fluent would make playing together easier. Our age range is between mid-twenties and early-thirties. We play through Discord so that's necessary for us to use. As a DM I very much favour story and fun over rules, I’m very loosey goosy especially if it results in achieving someone’s vision. I love roleplay, I develop many NPC’s, do the voices and try to get my players hooked to the world I’m trying to build. I’m a big fan of combat, even if I’m shaky on rules sometimes, I love to create interesting battle scenarios and add obstacles to make them challenging. And finally, I love storytelling, so I develop my worlds fully and will try my best to make your characters fit naturally with the setting and NPC and I’d be very collaborative. So, if interested I’d suggest you think up some vague character ideas and see how you can adapt a fantasy class to this noir setting. Even pitch me some backstory ideas, with the focus of the noir genre, to maybe catch my interest but we’d need a character creation session to really flesh out our ideas as a group. This is the second time I’ve made a game pitch for Roll20, you’d think I’d feel more confident in my ability to pitch but they usually always come out as word garble. But I hope if this appeals to anyone, they’ll be happy to pitch their ideas here or over a private message. Map of New Arcana (drawn by me) Edit - Would probably help me to include the allowed race options :P Also included are Half-Orc, Half-Elf, Reborn (story specific) , Genasi (story specific) , Goblin , Firbolg , Autognome (story specific).
As a former player of Brandon's skulking his game posts, I can tell you Brandon is one of the best DM's I've had the privilege of playing with. He will take something vague you wrote in your backstory and use it to surprise you a year later. I admire that he's always been one to make the campaign about the players, rather than a campaign that players walkthrough so you're really getting a special experience. He's great at adapting homebrew/flavor/mechanics if it makes a cool story and I'd be a player in anything he ran, if only my schedule allowed! In short, you're in good hands with Brandon :)
sent u a DM
What system are you looking at using? I had similar idea and was going to call my city Nocturne City.
Been having fun with this: https://www.ospreypublishing.com/us/hard-city-9781472849526/
The Batman said: What system are you looking at using? I had similar idea and was going to call my city Nocturne City. I say in the info dump just and 5e 2024 rules. I know there’s probably more fitting systems but I like the idea of adapting medieval fantasy to urban fantasy within the rules of 5e.
A question I do have is at what Level do you think the players would start as in this campaign or is that still being thought about?
