SCAR is a living, breathing open world, with adventures, settings and story arcs happening all at the same time in a tightly-knit community of over 20 consistent players and 5 experienced Dungeon Masters. We are a variation of a West Marches server, combining the elements of a sandbox world with story-driven elements. Our server is ever-evolving, improving regularly with new content or fine-tuning mechanics to ensure that the games are a fun and fair experience for everyone. The server will celebrate its 4th anniversary in July, with both old and new players, and our DMs are always striving to put out the best content. If you've always wanted to get invested into a character and play them through without the game falling apart... well here we are. Note! We only open recruitment every 7 months, when the current story season is wrapping up. We have 3 arcs wrapping up by the end of January, so there will be a couple weeks to get in and settled before we really start the influx of Tier 1 quests. Mostly don't panic if you see few T1 quests posted, they will be flooding in starting February. What do we expect from our playerbase? Age 18+. We keep content at a socially acceptable level, but we're all adults. We have a Content Type Opt Out post if you have specific phobias. Regular Participation. We generally expect about two games a month, more if you are up for it! We enjoy a very active community that checks in to our Discord a few times a week and is interested in roleplay and character story, over only showing up to roll dice. Those that actively roleplay outside of sessions are definitely preferred! Most of our folks are on daily, even just to chat or RP. If we only hear from a player once a month, we eventually mark them inactive and let them go. We are a very active group. :) Responsiveness. If you are signed up for a session, etc, you will get a ping from a DM to double check attendance, (or possibly to fix/adjust your character sheet or answer a question). Players need to be able to reply to these pings within a day to keep sessions moving smoothly. Make sure our time zones work for you! Because of the amount of time a West Marches-style server takes in terms of story, character development, and general participation, we do politely and kindly request that if you are part of this server, it is the only West Marches-style server you are part of. Our server style emphasizes character story, and we want to make sure you get the most out of being here! What do we offer? 1-3 games a week on different time slots for different tiers (though our seasons do run in waves, so the vast majority of characters are within the same tier at the same time!). Sign up when you are available. A very lively community full of folks who love to play D&D and develop story-driven characters. 24/7 available role-playing in a well-organized and actively-managed Discord. Out-of-game activities on Discord (text roleplay, chat, commands) and Chronica (online campaign manager), so the D&D continues even outside of sessions. Roll20 Premium with quality assets. Our Dungeon Masters are on your side, not against you. Tier 1 is introduction into mechanics and getting a feel for your character. We are not out to TPK, but still provide challenging games. That being said, death is still a possibility, and makes for a great story! Some of our sessions have mature themes set in a fantasy world, but are kept generally at a PG-13 level. A Trading Card Game! :) We have a lot of amazing lore from past story arcs, and the simplest way to get an easy, bite-size look at it if you are interested, is by collecting our optional lore cards. We have a fully automated and dynamic collecting website where you can collect, trade, and peruse our lore cards with other SCAR members. It's easy and makes learning some of the older history fun and less overwhelming. Availability and time zones: We have 5 active Dungeon Masters, who run games on the following times, and 1 additional DM who helps to maintain the community: USA - 7 P.M PST ( majority of games, between 1-3 games/week) EU - 8 P.M GMT+2 ( 1, maybe 2 games/month) AUS - 7 P.M AEST (occasional, not regular scheduled) Chronica and Discord are always available - you can RP, craft items, go carousing and chat with other players all day long! Additional Info: High-quality games with both combat and unique storylines Character lifespans vary slightly. You can get up to level 11 via one-shots and settings, or up to level 15 if in a Bard-song arc, or 20 if in a Legends-story arc. Characters within the server span around 7-9 RL months, allowing both a fulfilling time to play them and a chance to start someone new. We are utilizing roll20 for sessions, Discord for chat, and Chronica for all our tabletop management. We also have our own website to make our world immersive with extra organized info, and an automated TCG site if you have that collecting itch you want to scratch. We have a good selection of carefully-crafted homebrew to make the games and character creation even more exciting, without ruining the experience with power-builds.
