Complete Newb Looking to Play D&D

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate place, but, after watching some episodes of a livestreamed D&D campaign (Rollplay, anyone?) I'm definitely interested in trying it. The version they were using was a heavily modified 2e, however seeing as how I'm new and that 4e seems to be the most popular, I might want to start there. I'm available pretty much any time, and have voice (Skype and anything else) and would definitely commit to a group. If you think you can guide me in the right direction, post here, even if you specifically don't have a campaign or anything of the like! Or contact my skype: xildarkz I also have a brother (highschool junior) that is interested with the same lack of any experience, but his times are more constrained; it'd also seem reasonable that I get a feel for things and then ease him into it as well.
I can help teach you but I'm more familiar with Pathfinder than normal D&D.
Id say that among Roleplayers, 3.5 is the most popular :) Nowdays only oldschool nerds such as myself play 1st and 2nd edition :). 4th is the edition most like MMORPGs if you ask me. The basics of all editions are pretty easy, the DM starts the story, giving you a scene, you say what your character does and DM says what happens after that. In combat or when you try to do something difficult (like diplomacy to convince the goblins that you are their friends and you should work together to defreat and evil dragon), the DM will tell you how many of wich dice you should roll, and based on the results he tells you what happens. Casting spells or using ranged weapons where an enemy can hit you is bad. Getting hurt is bad. Killing stuff may be bad... but its good to be bad. The only really important rule is that " the DM is always right". A DM can overrule the books and dice... and the most important part is having fun with an epic story :) Well, that was the important parts of the players handbook right there :) Now youre ready to play! Have fun!

Nathan, you might want to look at Pathfinder. It is a quite popular version of 3.5 and you can get the rules for free at Paizo's website. http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ - Gauss
While you wait, try using the "Looking for Group" search engine here: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/search
I am currently running an ongoing 3.5-ish Forgotten Realms DnD Campaign. There are currently openings in two of the 3 groups that are active. The characters are pre-generated and one of the requirements is to join a private facebook group for the campaign. Each group meets at least twice a month; one onIy on Sundays from 2pm to 6:30pm -ish Eastern Standard Time, and the other meets Sundays and/or Mondays from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm -ish Eastern Standard time. If you are interested, please message me ASAP.
