Keeping track of used spells

Hey guys, For D&D 5e, does anybody have a suggestion for macros that could help me track which monsters have used which spells? e.g. a macro that will set a value from 0 to 1, and if that value = 1, then it will simply say, "you have already used that spell"? Obviously I could just use paper, but I want to minimize mental load while playing. Thanks,

You would probably need to use the API (mentor feature) to do that.
Just use the little icons, you can put a number by hovering over the color dots and typing a number from one to zero, or you could use the most used tool in DM history, the post it note, which is what I use for monster spells and such. Of course if the monster is an individual, like a dragon, you can use a character sheet.
This is the one thing I find too fiddly to use built-in character sheets for...too many clicks and mouse movements to get what I need done. I've tried journal notes, and using the strikeout to cross them off my list. It's not ideal, but it does keep the notes in game. Again, I feel like it is too many steps. Have you tried using a deck of cards? I haven't tried it myself, but a "spell card" for each spell you have memorized put into your hand might work well. Simply play the card when you spend the spell. Again, I haven't tried this myself, and am not sure how much space it takes, but it sounds to me like it might work well you. Unfortunately, I think the GM is the only one that can make new decks or cards, so this might not be something he is willing to do for you.

I use the method quintus described, works well but al e. Has a great method as well.
I make card decks as well. The plus for card decks is that you can actually have the card front be the spell description, but it takes a lot of setup. Then during the game, you deal yourself the spell cards you want to use, then play them when you need them.

I agree the 5e character-sheet method of keeping track of this is too cumbersome, clicky and time consuming (Spells available: 5. Spells casted today: 1. When you cast another spell you change the "1" to a "2".... when you rest and recover a spell you must change the "2" back to a "1"... and so on throughout the day such that you repeatedly flip to this section of the sheet to change such a small thing, many many times) The token method would be the same typing, but would occur on a token on the screen instead of flipping to a sub-page of the character sheet. For a low level caster, i'll remember their allotment and what they casted for the day, or use either of the above methods. I haven't tried the card-deck method yet but it does sound potentially awesome for this. For a high level caster with a lot of spells, this is just me, but I still use a piece of paper for this. All the spells are listed (and I can see all my choices at a single glance without opening anything on-screen or scrolling) and I use the hashmarks ///// to indicate how many of each spell for that day, then cross off the hashmarks when casted ///XX.
Another idea is to make a spell book icon, add a bunch of colored status effects, punch numbers in the status effects to represent spell slots, and assign what color = what level. Example: Combine that with this promising WIP spell management script and you may get a one stop shop :-) <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1187040/script-s" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1187040/script-s</a>...
