Personally I prefer the 2024 update, but from what I have seen more players and DMs are sticking with 2014 rules. For example, I did some D&D in the last town I lived in , as a player. One of the DMs allowed me to make a character using the new rules, but they all refused to adopt the rule set in general. It was Adventurer's League, which is technically required to update, but they chose not to.
