Access to Asset Library outside of a Game

It seems I'm not the only one that wanted this, I saw other posts on this but it seems they didn't get enough traction to stay alive. I would like to see some method of accessing and organizing your personal asset library outside of the game.  Over the years uploads can get rather cluttered no matter how well you organize them, and mass deleting assets you no longer use isn't exactly easy with the in-game system.  Even with a Pro account it's not exactly easy and I don't even want to imagine sorting through the mess if I had to go back to a free account due to hardship or something.  I'm also absolutely certain I have duplicate files in my library due to being unable to find a particular asset and simply re-uploading it to save time. I've seen a few user-made script and addon options to improve the asset library but they're a few years old for one and for two I haven't exactly gotten around to learning how to implement those types of things just yet and I certainly don't have the time to do it now.

+1 Yes, this sounds like a good idea, and an external interface could allow better management (showing file size, which games reference it, etc) than can be done in the limited space available in-game.

As a relatively new user - I do struggle with asset management. I tend to go into things with a data management mindset and it is quite a bit of busywork without the proper tools.

I am honestly glad to see this got more than the required 10 votes to survive, and glad to see the comments on it.  From how many times I saw this idea die in the suggestions boards I expected this thread to do the same.  Thank you for your support on this, I definitely believe it would be a benefit to all users.

Keeping this alive by popping in to say I 100% agree. I need to organize my stuff soooo badly and using the in game library only isn't cutting it because sometimes I want to just upload things and sometimes I want to sort it but I don't want to scroll through a list of recent uploads to find the thing I'm searching for because I didn't file it when uploaded.

I would also like to see a more user-friendly art library. It's great when you only work with a few tokens at a time, but when you work on entire campaigns and perhaps even monster hoardes, it gets... annoying to first have to upload, then sort from however roll20 decrees.

Adding an FTP interface that lets you synchronize images between online Roll20 and offline personal folders would be handy.

I have seen variations of this posted for a long time, and literally NOTHING ever comes of it. We need  the ability, especially when we are paid members and have a metric crap-ton of assets to dig through. I'd love to be able to do house cleaning without having to go through tokens one by one by one, on the very slow to load roll20 interface.

I have a massive library. While the in-game UI is fine to keep a handful of folders organized, it is a pain to use for a whole library. A dedicated file view outside of any game instance would be very beneficial to help keep everything organized.

Roll20 sure is excited about giving everyone the ability to make character sheets outside of a game but we still don't have a way to manage our images outside of a game...

Guess I'm bumping this, hopefully more people see it.

+1 I have over 1000 hours playtime, but most of that is having to log into a game to go over assets.  Being able to do things outside a game would be wonderful (that and maybe a way to reset the hours played, as feels like a sham lol)

+1! Especially useful for the "Characters" feature and for campaign images (that is if you don't want to use an already uploaded image)...

I have long, long hoped for a direct FTP style access to your content.  The actual content manager is really, really bad at it and if you need to back up content from a game such as tokens, you don't have any good innate options. I badly need to clear out my profile and I am *dreading* it.  I have an entire campaign on another account that I have left pro because I don't want to lose what's there - I'd kill for some sort of 'archive and download / upload an archive' feature.

Hopefully if Roll20 staff ever do implement something like this it'll be less buggy than their out-of-game character sheets feature.  Though even with bugs something would be better than nothing.

I am baffled, I remember very clearly that the library was accessible by the site, but, well, here is a +1 to this suggestion

Here I am, 1 year later, still baffled how basic navigation literally any other VTT has  is being ignored--despite the number of votes this is getting.  Roll20 team, you OWE us an answer--why is this NOT implemented yet? Why have you continuously ignored us--many of whom are PAYING CUSTOMERS?! It is absolutely ridiculous and I am so close to ending my membership. Not because we can't, but because this has been ignored without a single freaking response or acknowledgement from any of the Roll20 team.  This NEEDS to be a feature.

Im a pro paying user and not having this ability is just such a basic omission  its untrue after 4 years using roll20.  Literally so frustrating as i perosnally use a system to splice maps which auto names them x1y1.jpg and i have hundreds like this. searching is a pain. I just want to open up a window or tab or tool where my entire folder is visible. sort by size. mass delete. mass rename. etc. As a dev/coder id even offer my services to assist in this. A jscript image folder system is very easy to implement.  Make it under TOOLS. Asset Management. Job done.

I need this so much! I want to do exactly this - organize my files in bulk by dragging/deleting large numbers of them. I often end up uploading new versions of a file because I can't find the one I want in that moment. You can't even open multiple folders in the folder-viewer to be able to drag them into the one you want. Between ADHD and issues with using a mouse for long stretches of time my library is a MESS and it's extremely tedious and difficult to organize it by dragging one file at a time.

I've start using Roll 20 again after years. I agree that this should be a basic feature.

Its been 2 years since this topic was created... its clear that the devs have no interest in giving us this feature =(

Clearly there is some frustration for users in some of these threads, that could be alleviated with an answer from the Team.

Asset access outside of the games would be of great benefit - we could allocate only the assets we want to the games we want (I don't need folders for modern city streets or Marvel Villains in my D&D 5e games, thanks... that's just wasted space. This would not be a difficult coding fix in the slightest. We shouldn't need to use "user scripts' or 'workarounds' for a basic feature.

The cherry on top for all this is that it's not even clear that you can't access your files out of a game, I've spent 30 minutes trying to find that answer both on the site and through the internet and lo and behold the only clear proof that it doesn't exist is this post.

Still no word on this at all so I'm bumping in the hopes that someone on the dev team will see it and consider it finally.

THIS Topic is the most useful feature for any GM who has more than half a dozen games, or even a single large campaign. I'm going to add my 2 cents... even if we're no longer making cent pieces.   Just have the library outside via the home screen or my game screen.  GMs can organize by game, then by location, or by category (e.g., monsters, NPCs). And when working on the game, we pull from this external library.  This gives the bonus that some image used in another game can be easily accessed in another game.

Good advice for new GM's for sure thanks Pandarian. Unfortunately Ive been here since 2018 so 8 years waiting for roll20 to offer what the others do and not having backups of all that outside the system kinda sucks. Roll20 has been good but it needs to be better. Im off to hosted FoundryVTT (having tested them all) thats my choice and fits me best, easy to test on your local system and solid hosted solutions for the final game run. I do get that for many people its down to where your compendiums and modules that you have bought are at, but for me its time to burn this and invest in a new system. Will still play here on free cause :)

+1 for this. There is too much focus on player requests - DMs/GMs are a much smaller group so things we need/request are often ignored at the bottom of the pile with much lower scores. Please add 2000 points for anything deemed to be a DM/GM specific demand and focus on those please. The Journal is awful for GMs and players alike when trying organise and find information. The images we collect are a nightmare to find and use in game/handouts etc, Having to load the game just to sort out images, organise them, make them usable for players etc is a real pain especially when you have a large, long running campaign with tons of assets and it takes forvever to load (even Jumpgate) it just puts me off doing it. Its the same for the market place - we cant even buy more than one item at once - where is the shopping basket feature every other sales platform has had since the 1990s? Trying to find anything from the marketplace is difficult, buying it is a pain, finding it in future is incredbly slow and painful. Searches take forever and options/filters are too limited. I've stopped buying anything on Roll20 now I never get to use them as I cannot find them or I forget I have them. this wont be good news for sellers on Roll20.  All these things make DMing hard work and increases the chances of Burnout, campaigns fail and fewer people are playing roll20 as a result. HELP/SUPPORT US DM's/GM's make our lives easier, simpler, slicker and the game will grow.  After 11 years on Roll20 I about ready to give up on my huge investment of assets/books here and move to another platform.  Despite all the negative comments I make above I do want to say after waiting so many years for Roll20 to start actually doing something with this platform I am really happy with all the changes being made since Jumpgate started. The pace of change is great (Not too much at once so we are not overwhelmed). Changes are communicated and promoted very well. The changes are extremely well consider, slick, actually really useful, relatively bug free, Intelligently put together and they are making an enormous impact on how we plan, create, play and run our games. Performance, Pins, better Character sheets, beginings of in game map creation via Dungeon scrawl and many other enhancements just brilliant. Keep going but please dont get distracted with player request or new functionality - we need a major overhaul of our content/image storage, purchasing/marketplace storage and UI and improved systems to leverage, Link, exploit all our Hopefully, soon to be, easy to find data. I tend to try drag and drop from my personal folders for Images but its really annoying we cannot do this on Handout or pins. I cannot CTRL+C on an image I dragged into my map and CTRL+V it into a handout or pin. Its really annoying trying to find it in my image library or use the open my Desktop folders feature and dig through all my files again.

Please, Roll20 Devs!  I love your platform, and I would never consider giving my business to a different VTT if it wasn't for THIS ISSUE.  I might stick around for a while, but once I get sick of the lack of DM support on issues like this one, and I invest in a different platform, I won't be coming back.  Please, please please fix this! If you're a user and you're reading this, please upvote the topic so it will get seen!  I saw another user say that 200 upvotes is a meaningful threshold, and we're at 140!
