Has dnd popularity waned on roll20?

Hi! Sorry if this is the wrong forum. I figured this was the most on track. Feel free to move it mods. I haven't played for a long long time and was looking to hop into a WM or 1 shot with my friends this weekend, and noticed there's very few games posted on the forums and fewer in the find a game search. Has dnd been losing popularity? I remember years back there were so many players and dms posting stuff you could always find something. Not knocking roll20 or dnd, quite like both, just curious why it's been so dead for a lack of a better word and if anyone has any use suggestions on how to actually find games in this day and age.

Hi Inty,  I see 24 pages of D&D 5e listings in the LFG tool. (find a game search). That doesn't seem dead to me.  Of course, if you dont have 18+ turned on you will get fewer results. If you go free only the results will be significantly curtailed. And that is the problem. It isn't a lack of games being played, but a shift from free games to paid games.  This seems to be a common shift throughout the D&D community beyond Roll20. Many people lament that most games nowadays are for-pay.  Compounding this is when folks playing for free find a group they like, they don't migrate because finding good groups is difficult. Another compounding factor is that D&D 5e, while still popular, is not the only game in town. Lots of indie games are getting attention lately. While I don't have data I would not be surprised if it is whittling away at D&D's market share...everywhere, not just Roll20.
