Whispering to a GM when they are playing as a Player

So I think this is a bug, but it's at least confusing and unexpected behavior. Our group is playing in a game that I created, so I am automatically given GM status.  But someone else (who has been manually granted GM status) is actually GMing the game, and during the game I am signed into it as a Player.  So far so good. "Dave" is my Display Name in the game (as set in the options). "Nyssa" is the name of the character I am playing.  Again, I am signed into the game as a Player. If someone sends in the Chat bar ... /w Dave Any beers left in the fridge? ... I, as a Player, get the message just fine. If someone send in the Chat bar ... /w Nyssa Any kobolds left in the room? ... then they see the message as being sent off to the GM, and I (signed in as a Player and playing Nyssa) don't see it. The current GM sees it, but that's not who they addressed it to. When I sign back into the game in GM mode, then the message is visible to me in the Chat. Is this expected behavior? Is there a way to not have it happen?

Hi *** Dave,  Which character sheet are you using?  Is this a Legacy or Jumpgate game?

I suggest creating a second Free account using your backup email address and using that when you’re a Player. This Free account is also useful for testing your own games. For example, Andrew R. is my Pro account (Google email), but AndrewTBP is my Free account (Outlook email).
Hi, Gauss -- normal 2014 D&D character sheet, Jumpgate. Hi, Andrew -- I can see both some possibilities and some inconveniences there. I'll think about it. I can see where that would solve the problem (once character ownership and everything was sorted out); I'd prefer to avoid the two-account route if I can (and this particular problem isn't quite enough to make it essential).

Dave, can you verify that you have control over the target character as a player? (Ie: it has been properly assigned to you).  Also, can you verify that you are in player mode? Switching to player mode sometimes keeps you in GM mode.  The best verification is the toolbar on the left side being different in player mode.  Edit: I tested and was not able to replicate the problem.
When sign into the game (not just switch) as a Player, the left toolbar is at player privs, and Nyssa's token is the only one I can move, and I can open up her character sheet ... and the same message pattern as above happens. Oh, one more thing I noticed. When I am signed in as a Player and someone whispers to "Dave," it shows up in my chat then, and when I am signed in as a GM. (As noted, when someone whispers to the character "Nyssa," it only shows up when I go back in as GM.) Edit: I tested and was not able to replicate the problem.  Okay, I can probably chalk it up to some other odd anomaly in Roll20. Hmm. Wonder if, being the GM, when I built the character in Roll20 characters then moved it into the game, it somehow got tied to my GM credentials, even though I can manipulate it when in as a Player. (shrugs)  Appreciate your having looked at it, @Gauss.

Please try the following:  In the game, create a new character Assign control to yourself.  Switch to player mode.  Use your dummy account or have a player whisper to you via the newly created character.  (Note: I really would have a dummy account for basic feature verification, Player mode is not always adequate as it can be...weird sometimes.)

Also, Check for A) duplicate characters B) That the player's screen name is not the duplicated by a character. You can get whispered to as either. I.e. a whisper sent to "Nyssa" will go to Character Nyssa and Screen Name Nyssa.
