3D Dice Client-Side Overhaul

Give the 3D Dice some love and improve their performance, plus add support for a few other missing dice types including percentile dice.

Will this add some API support such as being able to use the results from 3D dice?
That would probably be a separate suggestion, Sam. Feel free to make it!

+1 for percentile dice! There are workarounds using d10s, but it would be nice to have native support. What other dice types are we missing? More importantly, what are we missing that cannot be trivially implemented with a rollable table? For example, a d6 with special symbols on each side (scatter dice in wargames, for example) is simple to make a small rollable table for. Of course, a rollable table doesn't give you 3D dice, but priorities need to be set. =)
Would this include the problem of a dice wobbling forever?
Are fudge dice amongs the "missing dice types"?

Oooh! fudge dice would be awesome! So would supporting 3d dice for rollable tables that have images and a proper number of sides. =D
Rolling dice is a huge part of the in person experience, and I prefer to watch the roll play out as it were. That said, the current dice are clumsy and lag enough I have yet to use them for an entire game session. +1 vote from me. Also, While keeping the interface simple and clean is a huge draw to roll20 for me, a little graphical flare with the dice wouldn't go unappreciated. Perhaps some simple texture options in additional to the die colors to make the dice feel more upscale and personalized?
An interesting add-on for the 3D-dice function would be the ability to have the default be non-3D, but for one to be able to quickly & easily have a single roll use the 3D-dice. The vast majority of the session you're not going to need the dice rolling around your screen - but the next roll is huge and so you go with the 3D-dice for this one, which only takes one more very quick click.

Especially if those textures can be 1) chosen from your library and 2) purchased through the marketplace. seanpp said: An interesting add-on for the 3D-dice function would be the ability to have the default be non-3D, but for one to be able to quickly & easily have a single roll use the 3D-dice. That sounds great, possibly a /3droll and something additional for an inline roll?

I sure do miss the sound of the dice hitting the table... any chance of an audible dice toggle? +1 for 3D Dice love.
If improving their performance makes the delay between typing in the command and getting the result quicker then I'd use them way more. Currently there is quite a delay before the dice even appear on screen after entering a roll command, which makes the 3D dice too slow to be used in most situations. Also would be nice for an option to configure the speed of the rolling animation/ how long it rolls for (in my case to make it faster, but maybe some people want it to go slower for more drama). I also like all the other things people have said here too, roll tables combined with custom graphics would make adding games that don't use standard dice way more stylish. Or even if the 3D dice are still slow, being able to use them for dramatic moments (as long as it is easy to do) would at least give them some more use than now, probably one way of doing that would be allowing the GM to set for all players if 3D dice are used/disabled at the click of a button. Still, making them work faster is the biggest priority imo so people would use them more. Making dice prettier achieves more once more people start using 3D dice. Functionality before style imo.

This is working very nice on the Dev server. What a difference.
I ran a test in my campaign on the dev server (in the last version of chrome) and the dice appeared but froze on screen. They did not refresh unless i hit a key on my keyboard (alt in my case). The result appeared in the chat window but the animation was broken.
Laurent -- Can you post about this in the Mentor forums so we can get some more details from you to track down the issue? We try to keep all the discussion/bug reports in there for things on Dev. Thanks!

Did these changes make the dice larger? Seems since the update the dice are massive. They look 4x the size it use to be, d12 and d20 feels like rolling a grapefruit..haha This is on a 20x13 map page: I've noticed it uses quantum roll and makes the dice set to the value rolled. very nice as no more waiting for the result. But downside is they don't seem 'natural' at all anymore watching them. They feel like they are magnetic rolling over a table with a magnet 'snapping' them back. But I guess thats the downside of making it roll a predetermined result. Not so much an issue, just an observation. Also noticed if you do a macro with more than one type of dice, not all show up. Like doing a 1d20 and 3d6 rarely do all 4 show up..usually its only the 3d6 OR the 1d20.
I love the 3D dice function. Any chance we could choose the colors to roll (say, 3 green and 1 red d6s in one roll) and then allow the dice to rest on the "table" until dismissed? My game uses dice colors to emote PC actions and to determine second-order effects. These features would help me a great deal.
Myself and my players (6 of us in total) feel that the new dice are too big (the old size was fine) and they are removed from the table too quickly. We have had no problems with functionality. I like Eddie B's suggestions (ability to change dice colors and hold the dice until dismissed) too.

If by "improve their performance" you mean "make them eat less memory" then I'm all for it. I've tried using the feature and it practically freezes my web browser.

It would make them a) visually personalized, b) more practical for simultaneous attack & damage rolls, or D&D 5e advantage/disadvantage mechanics (red is 1st die, green is 2nd, or similar effect), and c) another step towards simulating person-to-person game experience since most have plenty of dice...
This is now released in the Update of Holding.
