Module/ journal not working

I create a game, I enable compendium sharing, I go to get the game set up. then if i close tabs in the journal from a module or a game Ive set up , it wont allow me to open the tabs again if i exit out of the game. like once i load back in its like the the content in the +/- tabs no longer exist.. Ive now set up 3 games and I guess the mistake i make is reducing the +/- tabs in the journal?

I will call the +/- folders (not tabs). So your Journal Folders (+/-) are getting stuck Closed and you can't reopen them by pressing the + ? When you say "the content no longer exist" meaning you open the Folder with + but nothing is in the folder, or you are unable to open the folder using + ? The +/- folder opening and closing buttons, work fine for me. We will have to do some troubleshooting and try to isolate the conditions to see if anyone else can replicate this issue. Can you tell an example of which Module that you have installed, where this happened? And which game system did you enable a Compendium? Also tell any other details like if this game has 2 character sheets, or if this game is linked to demiplane? And is this game in Jumpgate the newest Roll20?
Q) So your Journal Folders (+/-) are getting stuck Closed and you can't reopen them by pressing the + ? A) after closing a (+/-), exiting the game and reentering. the tap that once had a (+/-) doesnt even display a + nor let me open it. Q) When you say "the content no longer exist" meaning you open the Folder with + but nothing is in the folder, or you are unable to open the folder using + ? A) After closing the +/- tab and re entering the game. there is no + to use on previously closed tabs so there's no way to access what in the folder. Q) Can you tell an example of which Module that you have installed, where this happened? And which game system did you enable a Compendium? A) This has Happened on Vecna eve of Ruin, Candlekeep Mysteries, A game I have been working on were im setting up the game art and tabs but then they are gone. Q) Also tell any other details like if this game has 2 character sheets, or if this game is linked to demiplane? And is this game in Jumpgate the newest Roll20? A) This is on Jumpgate, these are games using both 2024 and 2014 character sheets. the step by step that makes it happen 1) set up the game 2) start to minimize +/- tabs to reduce clutter in the journal 3) back out because im done or what ever reason 4) re enter the game to do work on a game and the tabs i close don't eve have a +/- on them and then I cant access the folders in the tabs again All of these in the journal are saposed to have +/- tabs and did when I first started the game. now clicking does nothing to the tabs in the journal

Ok, I understand. Did you report and ask about this same issue 1-2 weeks ago? Or was that someone else? Asking because it will help to diagnose this. Your issue is this, as I understand it: The +/- button that controls Opening and Closing Journal Folders is disappearing. The rest of the information is very releavant, about the conditions that lead to it disappearing, so thank you for all that information and the screenshot. I will research this and try to come up with some troubleshooting steps. It is going to start with the standard troubleshooting steps, and I'm not going to assume that you already tried the standard steps. But you can tell me, what have you already tried? I understand that you have already tried this on (at least 3 games) with 3 different modules (Vecna, Candlekeep, and homebrew).

Unusual troubleshooting steps: Create a more basic Roll20 game that has No Character Sheet (no game system) set, do not include D&D 2024 or D&D 2014. Make some homebrew Folders, close them as your normal procedure, log out and log back in as your normal procedure. Does the problem persist? Standard troubleshooting steps: What browser and device type are you using? Are you using a Touchscreen device? You mentioned "tap". Try it with Chrome or Firefox browser on a PC/computer. Does the problem persist? Open your game in Incognito / Private browser mode. Does the problem persist? Clear your browser cache/cookies and reload. Still the problem?
I created a candlekeep (2014) and used the 2014 sheet and it worked fine after backing out and then back in. im using firefox, i add 2024 to it then it and it still works fine.. i also cleard my history too. one of these process seemed to solve the problem

Ok! Report back if it comes up again. I seem to remember hearing a similar issue from 1 other user, but it has not been a widespread problem. I'm glad it seems to be working for you again.

Both Firefox and Chrome have been having various issues lately. It's a shame Edge and Brave are not considered compatible.

Same problem for me with Keys from the Golden Vault. It happened mid session. The addons are still listed in the journal, but there is no way to expand them to get the contents. Not even to the player characters. Observation: The Marketplace item that was used to create the adventure Keys from the Golden Vault Module , containing 13 Addons , does not shown up any more. Maybe some entity broke the data integrity when messing around in the Marketplace, or in the VTT, or both. My forum post, I also opened a supportticket: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/12486004/journal-contents-gone-slash-unaccessible

MaximilianI said: Same problem for me with Keys from the Golden Vault. It happened mid session. As DM Blake said above in the thread, the solution for him was to clear the browser cache and reload.
SO, I cleared the cache last time and it did the trick..this time I cleared the cache and deleted my history and nothing happened Ive opened and closed, and re started the comp too. .. still no way to open the +/- tabs after they were closed and I back out as the +/- dont even display. This is really frustrating given I have a game with 40 weeks of homebrew handouts and art and i cant access it.

Hi DM Blake, Another user is also having this issue and they report that when they create a new folder or rename a folder the other folders appear for a time. Could you test to see if that works for you? It might get you up and running while the Devs figure this out.
It is unstable. It did not work during the past days, and it did not work when I logged in a couple of minutes ago, but it does work right now. We have a plan b for the next session involving a player's dnd beyond account where I can do the DM. Nevertheless, and since this on-and-off is going on since two weeks now, I feel like Roll20 are not meeting the expectations they were advertising. To put it courteously.
This has nothing to do with the cache, it is bad behaved programming. And either low priority at Roll20, or there is no-one to check the LLM written piffle some higher-up derp has ordered (speculation mine). Just now I added a folder in the journal and the contents appeared. I deleted the folder and they stayed. So that was a work around, this time.
I encountered a folder issue last night. In two new games (Jumpgate, 5E 2014 sheet), after cache clearing and cookie removal, I couldn't move handouts into folders (usually, it didn't fail 100% of the time, but it mostly failed). I filed a bug report. This was on Firefox (Mac version). I had not observed this issue last week (I'm not sure if I moved any handouts earlier this week; I've been doing a lot of prep for my next game, but it mostly involved maps). This morning I tried again with a new third game with no sheet, and encountered the same problem. Note: I have not had any problems opening / closing folders themselves.

@Maximilianl, I don't think your issue is widespread. I haven't seen it myself and there have been only a few reports that I have seen. That might be why it is harder to track down. @Ken S., There was an update in the last week or two that improved how the Journal tab characters can be dragged out to the VTT. Before: you had to drag the name. Dragging the image did not work (the image was designed for moving it within the Journal tab). Now: you can drag the name or the image. But there seems to be a couple issues with dragging the image within the Journal tab. One is the mousewheel zoom has been lost. The other, your issue, seems to be emergent. Only a couple people have reported it.

@Gauss How is that supposed to be helpful? I wish my payments were "hard to track down". Those with the problem can't drag anything from the journal because there is no journal. The elements in the list have no functionality to them, not even a right click context menu. One can add a new folder because those buttons still work, and that apparently gives the journal its functionality back. But again, for all those reading: The journal does not work, it might be connected to the specific module and possibly the marketplace. I've told that to the support, but if there's only an LLM listening and giving things a statistical weight then I fear we are at an impasse. Anyway, when this adventure is finished I will be off to another VTT, and I cannot recommend Roll20.

"I was trying to provide some context as to why it is taking time for the Devs to track it down. " You didn't. The idea came to the very day they closed my first ticket as being "solved". I t is perfectly ok not to know a solution, even if it is missing fuel in the tank. It now happens in all of my games, but it is enough to create a folder in one of them. That makes the contents accessible even in other games when I exit one and open another game. ---------- @DM Blake: If you're still here :-) Have you found a way apart from creating and deleting folders?
