Orad's unruly, godless landscape is the result of two decades of world-wide war from the heavens upon the earth, and a century of limping away while the old world rots. Civilization as the world knew it is done for. Corpses of gods litter magic-twisted landscapes. Elemental ulcers break through the ground, leeching their energies into the land and life around. Crucial sparks were lost in the war between mortals and their gods, and the Usurper and her elves: sparks of ingenuity, of divinity, of ambition. Without them, there is little guidance- only clumsy stumbling in the dusk where monsters and cruel fae lurk with waiting claws. None can ever forget how the world was ruined, but none can ever remember how to get back where they were. The forests and fields of old are plentiful and untamed. The elves may have left, but their mark is made. The desert dunes, craggy badlands and high seas didn't birth the ambitious-- only the careful. Few settled- most just squatted in rural ruins and dug through their brittle bones. You and yours are all that mattered. The family, the caravan, the crew. All the heroes of Orad died long ago with that great war. In nearly a century, none returned. If any were born new, they dwindled alone. Few tamed oases of civilization exist without being under the domineering claw of a dragon or devil. Horrors still crawl out of the stubborn shadows between planes, but many Fae have withdrawn and the woodwards sleep now. There's finally a chance- a little spark has returned to mortalkind, here and there. The Afterworld needs heroes to carry that spark and rekindle hope, less the stubborn shadows snuff it out. The Blushing Valley of Uzera is one such place where heroes are needed. It is a hilly and forested land filled with wild elemental spirits, disparate fledgling clans, and old ruins of foxfolk civilization. Many grasping claws reach for its plentiful honey and grain, as well as its hidden artifacts. Dormant history could lead to its revival- or its destruction. It's time to quit huddling in darkness and light the way. System and Rules We're using Pathfinder 1st Edition, including house rules for Hero Points (called Sparks), max level is currently 8th for this campaign, and supplementary rules for a little added player power (character specific talents/abilities). Quick Setting Explanation Japanese myth-inspired campaign (just for the campaign's relevant region) in a post apocalypse where Fae are feared, city ruins are avoided, and the world is very wild. Darksun, but the elves did it and it's not a desert. I am happy to give new players a primer. Session Info We plan to run the game weekly on Saturday evenings, 4:00 PM PST at the earliest, for an average of 4 hours. Player and Table Expectations You do not have to already know Pathfinder 1st Edition- I'm happy to teach and the two current players are happy to as well. The game is heavy RP, so most interactions in the game will be in character. Strategizing, preparing spells- all within the context of RP to keep players connected and grounded in the world. Your first session as a new player will introduce you to PF1e if you've never played (or you're rusty). It will also introduce you to your part of the world, your stake in it, and the other NPCs in your character's life. Character Creation Rules They look restrictive but trust me they work just fine. Playable classes are: Barbarian, Bard, Fighter, Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Samurai, Sorcerer, and Wizard. Playable races are: Dwarf, Human, Half-orc (just called Orc), Nakari (Kitsune analogue), and Zehith (Lizardfolk analogue) . Players start at 4th Level, use 20 Point Buy, have two bonus skill feats and a background feat, background knowledge skill and a profession skill. Players begin with no gold- gold isn't used in this campaign, but players will be given level-appropriate gear. Gaming Requirements This game requires voice, so you'll need a working mic. Webcam is optional- I turn it on so players can see as well as hear the characters I'm acting as. Unfortunate :c It's the one way I could make it possible for our player in Japan to play with the rest of us in America.
The party is currently an Orcish Samurai, a Zehith Rogue, a Nakari Ranger and a Nakari Sorcerer. We're leaving sign-ups open for one more player until the end of the week. After that, we'll be starting this Saturday!
