Every dice roll, rolls two dice

Bought Pathfinder 1s Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition and every time my players roll a dice it rolls two? It kind of seems like it's rolling for advantage from fifth ed but I can't find anywhere to check the settings on the character sheet.

Many sheets roll multiple dice for a single sheet roll but only display certain rolls/info based on the results.  ie rolling an attack and crit confirm at the same time. When you use 3d dice though, all those rolls are seen even if only one of the dice rolls is actually used.  It's a limitation of how sheet roll template logic works vs the 3d dice feature.  ;-(
Ok, so it's not actually rolling all those dice? It's just a visual thing?

It probably is rolling all those dice (as seen by the # of 3d dice rolled), but depending on how a sheet and roll template are designed, which of those dice are actually used could depend on various factors.  For example, in PF you roll the attack, IF it's a possible crit, you would need to roll a crit confirm.  At the same time, the sheet might also roll the damage as well as possible crit damage.  That's a lot of dice that might be included with a single attack roll.  The roll template logic will determine if only the attack roll is seen, or if it's a possible crit, the logic might also show you the crit confirm roll and finally depending on those results, show the damage and crit damage rolls.  This is all done behind the scenes when you make the attack roll. When 3d dice are enabled, all of those rolls are shown at the time of the attack regardless of the roll template logic that's used to filter what's seen or not seen.  Not all sheets or systems make so many rolls at once, but when they do, the 3d dice option falls short.

Obeliske, One way you can think of it:  I am playing at home on my kitchen table (ie: not on a VTT). I have a red d20 and a blue d20.  I also roll a red d8 and a blue d8.  To save time I roll all four simultaneously, the red is my attack and damage and the blue is my critical hit confirmation and critical damage.  However, in Roll20 it rolls all the dice then only shows the dice that are "used".  It rolls the attack d20, critical confirmation d20, damage d8, and critical damage d8. Then in chat it shows only the attack d20 and damage d8 if I didn't critical.  The rolls are hidden, then it displays what is appropriate to display.  The problem wth the 3d dice roller, the rolls aren't hidden. They are not representations of hidden rolls, they are the actual rolls being processed in a physics simulator.  So because it doesn't know which dice it will need and which it will not need it rolls all the possible dice at once. Then sorts it out afterwards and displays that to chat.
I can't figure out if I'm just not being clear or what but when we click for instance to make an attack it's rolling a d20+modifiers and states the outcome in chat but there are visually 2d20 that are being rolled. Or when we roll for attack damage after that it will be 1d6+X and it will roll 3D6. It still states the proper damage in the chat but there are visually multiple dice rolling that shouldn't be.

You are describing exactly what happens when a sheet's rolls include multiple dice rolls but only show those that meet certain roll template logic.  The only reason you are seeing all those dice is because you have 3d dice enabled.  3d dice and roll template logic do not play well with each other.  Unfortunately. ;-( What shows up in chat via the roll template is the real result. 3d dice are just eye candy when used with sheets that make multiple rolls and use roll template logic to hide/show results. PF attack rolls are probably making lots of these pre-rolls. Curious, are you seeing multiple dice for saves or skill checks as well?

You are being clear, we are describing the same behavior.  What I think you are misunderstanding is that there are two completely different systems of dice rolling in Roll20.  3d Dice do NOT roll dice the same way as non-3d dice roll checks.  When non-3d dice are rolled they are rolled in secret, the sheet then keeps the dice it wants to keep, then it shows you the results.  3d dice are a physics simulator. They roll THEN they are sent to be processed by the sheet, it adds modifiers, strips out any dice it doesn't want to display in the chat, then sends the results to the chat.  But, that first step is the 3d dice roll....nothing else has been done before that step. So the system does not know if you have rolled a critical or not, so it rolls them all, then sorts it out afterwards.
