[D&D 3.5] An Ambitious Request!

Hi! I pop up here on occasion once or twice a year to put forth an idea that I think would be totally rad. The first time there wasn't enough interest. The second time our DM abandoned us on the night of the first session. I'm looking for a few people: A DM, and two to three other players to run through the entirety of Mongoose's The Drow War. Probably the longest pre-written D&D 3.5 adventure I've ever seen. It goes from level 1 all the way to level 30. I figure this might lead to a few questions: 1. Why this adventure? Because I really want to play in a game where I earn epic and well and truly save the world, or existence and I think that using a pre-written adventure can make it a lot easier for the players and the DM especially to keep going. There's less preparation for the DM in designing encounters and let's face it. 2. Why four players? Because I've found all the most successful games I've run have been that size. Four is the optimum balance of stage time and having enough players to actually progress through encounters. Three can be even funner. But can be a bit more challenging? I like three player campaigns because I really like the Gestalt rules in unearthed arcana, I just know that its way too easy to make the entire party too overpowered if there are too many players in a gestalt game. Three is the balance of power I've found has actually worked best. 3. Why am I not DM'ing this myself? Because in my live action face to face D&D group that meets on Thursdays I'm already the dm. This is the one adventure I've always just wanted to play in. TL;DR Player seeking: 1 DM fastidious and motivated enough to run through the entirety of The Drow War that can control an epic levelled D&D party (eventually) 2. Two other players interested in Gestalt 3.5 or Three other players interested in normal non-gestalt 3.5. I was part of a group that got together for 8 months at a time. Poor communication, and lack of interest from the dm killed the games

Hmmm.... This looks really good. I happen to love DMing games. Unfortunately, I am running two games currently. I wouldn't have the time to properly devote to this campaign. As fun as it looks. I apologize. Who knows? If you don't find anyone, I might catch you later in the year when you try again or something, huh? I'd totally be up for DMing the game then. :D

I love gestalt myself, and will throw my hat in the ring as a player. I just dont have the time to run a game in roll20 as a DM though. Its so much prep work and carefully crafting maps, etc...

Yeah, I know. That's (one of) the reasons why I wanted to play with a prewritten adventure. Lots easier to set the maps up when you have something to trace so to speak. The longest campaign I ran lasted almost a year and took the party from level 1 to level 19. It was the Savage Tide adventure path. The game stopped after an unfortunate encounter with a slime wiped the party. The players had a lot of trouble keeping their enthusiasm as new characters and we shelved the game. It is still the game that had the biggest impact on some of my friends though. Two of the players grew so attached to their characters (a rogue, and a druid who were brother and sister) that when the druid player got married, the rogue was his best man and he gave the rogue a matching silver pocket watch with the characters last name engraved on it. The longest game's I've ever played in was a D20 modern campaign that lasted 14 months. It was some weird cross between the TV show Heroes, NGE, and Deus Ex, and more importantly we actually finished it. We fought our way to the grand ending. Level 1 to level 22. I remember the finale clearly. One of our friends had decided to make a heroic sacrifice an was really shook up by it. You grow attached to characters you've been playing for so long and this guy was no exception. He got so outrageously drunk that he couldn't even go home when the game was over. This was the first game that I ever finished and it felt great. The second game I finished was actual D&D. It was the adventure the War of the Burning Skies. The game lasted 13 months. I played that one with my current group and we trucked on through it. Although, I went through something like four characters over the course of it. I came out of that game super happy to finish a proper d&d campaign, but also disappointed that my character changed so often and that my motivations we're a little strange. It made me really want to try and play through another campaign where I was able to stick with a single character for the entire game and do my best not to die and really grow that character. Unfortunately my group is growing a lot fonder of shorter campaigns that last about ten levels or so. Thus, here we are!

I could DM it but I would rather play. I have read some of the reviews of the book and it looks like it still requires a fair amount of work to run. I can only really do weekend nights, but if that is what lines up, let me know. I've been playing for years.

Well Ryan, I'm still holding out for someone really raring at the bit to run this. Forcing someone to run a game like this that could well last over a year hardly sounds like fun for anyone. As to who plays....well, I guess honestly it comes down to who's available when.

I've played with some friends of mine a 3.5 campaign that lasted for over a year before the party was wiped, it was the most fun I've had in a long time. The DM was nice, and it was my first time playing 3.5 but he was fair and helped me when necessary, the other players were nice too. We've all had a good time and memorable moments, I played a human barbarian who was illiterate at the beginning (but the DM forgot about that) and couldn't find the blacksmith and asked a city guard where to find it Me: "You, where smithy place with lots of weapons?" City guard: "It's right behind you! It says so right there." *My character looks at the sign that says "Blacksmith"* Me: "What is chickenscratch on wall?" *DM facepalms* I had lots and lots of fun with that character, until his untimely demise at the hands of the party druid. Apparently he had it in his mind that he's the protector of all the animals in the world. And my character, after weeks on end of eating trail rations on weeks on end was going to go fishing without the druids knowing. After the druid hears that my character was gone fishing he tracked my character and summoned an alligator to try to eat me...plus he sent his wolf companion to attack me as well. My character was quickly sent down to -2 hit points, and before I could say that my character was knocked unconscious. What does he do? He attacked with the wolf companion with a crit 20! which was like 15 damage right there. After he realized he had just killed the party's powerhouse......OVER A FISH! He tried to hide the body and hide from the party's wrath.
