Hover to show token nameplate and bar overlay issue

Edited 1765582446
Problem: I'm the GM of a game and made a bunch of tokens to test. Joining as a player, all token nameplates and bar overlays display correctly by default. Having all those bars visible can get kinda cluttery, so we'd like to use the “Hover to show token nameplate and bar overlay,” in the graphics settings. However, when I enable it, when I hover over tokens, the overlays only appear for the token I control as a player. Tokens I do not control show nothing on hover. If I turn the setting off again the overlay and nameplate is instantly visible again for all tokens. Same issue a few years back: Im seeing the same issue described here: [ https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/11531638/hover-to-show-token-nameplate-and-bar-overlay-doesnt-work ]. Since the issue is marked as resolved, Im wondering if Im missing something. Ive already tried all fixes suggested in the linked thread. Is someone willing to take a moment to help me with this? Environment: Browser: Firefox 146.0 OS: Windows 11 Addons: Privacy Badger (I have disabled to test, with no change)
Could someone confirm they are having the same issue? So I know if it is on my end or not?

Hi Balam! Have you checked the tokens in question to see if viewing permissions in the name are set for both "See" and "Edit". In the former case, everyone can see the nameplate. If the latter, only a person with edit privileges (the controller of the character) can see them. These strictures would apply to you if you have joined as a player. They are on the token settings control panel, just above the name plate in a 3-dot drop-down menu.
Gah ! I was recording a video to demonstrate the issue, and in the process I accidentally fixed it in a very weird way. The whole thing is recorded if a dev wants to see it haha (sorry if I wasted someones time ) (ㆆ_ㆆ) What I did: After I showed it wasnt working, I wanted to show that when having full control over the token the hover effect does work correct. So I added one of the test NPCs to “In Player Journal” and enabled “Can be edited and controlled by.” for the test Player. When I loaded in as a player, the hover text appeared correctly, just as expected. I dont want however to allow players to control all tokens. After that, I removed “In Player Journal” and “Can be edited and controlled by” from that NPC. Once I did this, I noticed by accident that all other tokens on all maps started behaving correctly. I didnt edit a single one of them. I can now hover over them without controlling them. Their permissions, as mentioned by Keith, are set to View only, Edit is disabled, and still everything works as intended. I’m not sure what originally caused the bug. It worked before and suddenly one day it stopped working for all tokens. I had been dealing with this issue for a few days, but this sequence of steps seems to have fixed it for me.
Balam, You did not state it, but was this game on the Jumpgate VTT or the old VTT? I see a lot of minor issues popping up with Jumpgate that suddenly go away after a while or when the game is reloaded. Chief among these lately are an inability to ping (no visual indicator of the assigned color), lack of response from right-clicking on a token (no menu), lack of/failure to remove a grid when turned on or off on a map, sand when updating the screen size to fit a map, the screen size does not work. They are little annoying things with no apparent cause or fix. Within themselves they don't cause a great problem, they just suck up my time in having to constantly refresh a page or reload R20.
Hi Oginme, I was indeed using Jumpgate. Though I have to add: I did reload the page, tried a different browser, tried a different pc, my issue stayed until I did the above steps. I personally havent had the minor issues youre describing, but I hope things get resolved for you soon, and I won't come across them during sessions! ;D
