Switching damage types

There are a lot of ways in D&D 5E that allow you to choose the damage type for a spell, weapon or other attack. The 2024 sheet templates, when you roll damage, specifies the type of damage. I know that you can change the type in the sheet but that's a permanent change. So, for example, I can change a weapon to always use a different damage type than its normal type, and the damage template will use that. What I'm looking for is a way that I can specify the type of damage when I make the attack, or roll the damage. So, if I have an attack that allows me to choose fire, cold, acid, thunder, or lightning damage, or I could choose force or its regular damage (bludgeoning), is there a way to specify the choice at the time of rolling the attack or damage? I know, I can just tell the DM and he can ignore what it says in the template, but I sometimes forget. If I have a macro or some other way to ask me the damage type choice, then I won't forget, and it will be displayed in the roll template. So, is there a way to specify damage type at the time of rolling? Anyone know?

Hi Saul J.,  When you construct the attack you can type in a custom damage type. At that point you can make a query.  Example: ?{Damage type|Acid|Cold|Electricity|Fire} If you are editing you can just type instead of selecting the damage type, you can put in the custom damage type at that point.  Edit: I oopsed on the example, fixed.

I didn't think they had fixed things to allow queries in the damage fields - the last time I tried, it didn't work. This does work. Now, I can build my elemental monk to be able to choose the damage type for his attacks... it was getting to be a PITA since I can now do so many different damage types and I sometimes switch it up for each attack. Lost you on that last sentence though. :-)

You can ignore that though and just start typing the query into the box and it should work fine.

I was just confused by the original wording and thought you were trying to say something else.  Now if I could only get that "custom 1" that's listed to just be added in with the rest of the damage, I'd be fine. The "custom 1" is from my Wraps of Unarmed Power +1 . I tried putting the query into its damage box but the system won't take it. If I open up the wraps to edit the damage type, it looks like there's a text box there but I can't enter the query into it.  If I go into the "Advanced" modal, the damage is a drop-down box, rather than a text box where I can put in the query.  So annoying...
