TLDR; Hi. I am thinking of setting up a living world with multiple GMs using 2e D&D as the base system, replacing Proficiencies with Pathfinder skills and THACO with BAB. Hi. I have been in love with D&D for a long time. I started playing AD&D. I played 2e, 3.x, Pathfinder and liked each of them. I am not a fan for 4e and 5e. The problem I have with 1e and 2e is their lack of a method to create useful skills for all characters. Proficiencies aren't as useful as I wish. The problem I have with 3.5 and PF is the level of high grade cheese it is possible for an aggressive and well informed character to create. If you don't understand the term, I mean players can make relatively over-powered characters leading to 1 player who has optimized their character and is killing all monsters in a couple of rounds while less optimized characters do a little damage but are relatively less successful in combat. This isn't fun for anyone. I have an idea that 2e has enough variation with some better limiters than 3.5 and PF, allowing players to build their characters a little without creating stupidly powerful combos. At the same time I find the Proficiency system to be wanting, and THACO to be a little difficult for people to parse. Therefore, that's what I want to try. Use all of the 2e books and add in PF skills and BAB, removing THACO. I would like to do this in the context of a living world that offers games every day. I would like to recruit GM's who want to play vs players who don't. You forever-GMs out there, this opportunity is for you. Come and join your brothers. If you have questions, or interest, or see some obvious problems with the above that I haven't seen, please sound off. Thank you.
