https://i.imgur.com/PggYaY2.png A sheet under the folder "Moe" has gone missing - I cannot give any more information than that lmao I logged into the game and it's just gone - The sheet was called "Odric Hammerhead" - My player is very distraught over the loss of their sheet as that is where they have kept all their notes... Here is the game in question: https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/20814719/5-dot-1-fridays-02-00-explorations-of-the-forgotten-realms They have had to remake their sheet from memory for now but it is disrupted our game.

Hi DM Steve, Have you tried rolling back the game? If that doesn't work you might try contacting Roll20 via the Help Center. They should be able to recover the data. Also, did your player create the character via the +Character button or the Roll20 Characters page?
DM Steve, This happened to me on Monday. I found the sheet in the Journal Archive at the bottom of the journal entries. No idea how it relocated there, but it appeared when I specifically searched for that character. I put it down as a fluke, but if you are using the Jumpgate VTT, any fluke is possible.

Hey Gauss, yeah so the player found their sheet in their "Characters" tab on Roll20 - it was removed from our game and put there! Very weird Demiplane stuff going on at the minute with the sheets
All of my players' characters have disappeared. Game was in cold storage and was recovered perhaps a week or two ago. I tried rolling back the game but it only allowed back to March 17. I have put a help desk ticket but I think I have to cancel the game tonight.

Also did your players happen to delete their characters from their Roll20 Characters page?…

Also did your players happen to delete their characters from their Roll20 Characters page?… I did search and they were not there. There was no 'archive'. The players did nothing. The game was in cold storage and the characters got unlinked during that time. When I restored from cold storage, the characters did not get re-linked for some reason. Not sure if that is normal or a bug. But they were able to find them in their 'My Characters' section in Roll20 and add them to the game manually.

I think I understand the problem. I'll verify if my guess is correct, but this sounds like it's working the way it should. When Roll20 introduced "My Characters" (Roll20Characters in some older usage), the intent was to give players more agency over their characters. If they build their characters in that environment, the characters belong to their account. If a game were to go into cold storage the characters would become inaccessible. It's my suspicion that when Cold Storage happens, the characters are booted back to their owner's "My Characters" to allow the owners access. If you want to avoid this in the future, the best preventative is to turn off the ability of players to upload characters into your game, and use the older method of generating the blank character sheet for them in-game. That way, the character data is "owned" by the game, and will go in and out of cold storage with it. EDIT: I've posed the question to Knowledgeable People, and will report back if and when I learn anything authoritative.
Hey folks, thanks for the reports here -- We've been working on an improvement to how we store the data for Characters in the backend to fix some bugs as well as generally make that system more powerful and flexible. Unfortunately, a bit of that migration ran into a snag and caused some of these issues you've reported when those updates collided with Cold Storage thaws. We have pushed out a fix that should resolve these issues and prevent Characters from vanishing (as well as fixing a few other weird shenanigans, like cross-campaign character name synchronization). This issue should be resolved, (and you might see some characters in your journal that you thought gone); apologies for any confusion there. Please let us know if you run into further issues!
