Forum Notifications

Hi folks, It used to be that when there was a response to a forum question that there would be a notification on the upper right corner of the roll20 home screen. And it would stay there - I seem to recall I could click on whatever the icon was that there and it would still show me that I'd received some replies. I know it changed, but it's really freaking irritating now. To me at least. That little blue indicator is difficult to reach (plus I'm getting old and cranky) and I often open the private message by accident which make me roll my eyes. :) After viewing the new message, I have to go searching throughout the forums for them afterwards. Is it only me that this irritates? Has it been discussed? It seems really unadviseable and confusion-inducing to have an icon serving two purposes; in this case for both private messages and new forum replies. -- Tim
+1 This has been annoying me also.

The other thing I am finding is that when I go to click on Post New Topic in one of the Community Forums, the screen goes to Private Messages Inbox, instead. I have to make sure I click the red link halfway down or lower. Come on Roll20, this is really sloppy.
Sent a report about it last month. Now I have a +2 🙃

Or is their team a bunch of individuals who are just doing their own thing like that awfully sloppy performance enhancement thing that arsed up only two of us of all Roll20 clients?

I think there's some old code left in there too. For a temporary (visual) fix, until they figure it out, you can try blocking it. I use uBlock. Right click, hit Block Element, then click on the blue notification bubble (##.notification-icon) and hit Create. No more bubble (visibly)!
##.notification-badge* not icon, sorry

Thanks, but I'd be afraid to try uBLock. i'm a stupid Boomer and have truly found that as you get older the "plasticity" or whatever it's called of your brain tends to get stiff. It's really alarming. Crazy seeing the same behaviour in me that I used to inwardly roll my eyes at when trying to help older people at work with my own applications or the actual maintenance software I supported.   How did you make your complaint? After hopelessly trying to click "Dismiss All" on my notifications, I am really angry at the idiots who dreamed that up and desperately need to bellyache at this crew that seems to break a lot of functionality with any feature improvement. -- Tim

Help Center > Send Request > Drop Down Menu - Tech Assistance & Bug Reports. But it is on their radar and is TBD in their log. Best of luck out there!

There is a work-around! If, like me, you’re usually using a tablet to check the Roll20 forums and notifications, then tapping on the Envelope takes you to Private Messages every time. If you rotate your tablet into Portrait, a Hamburger menu appears! Tap on the Hamburger menu and the Envelope is at the bottom. Tap on that Envelope and it shows your Notifications properly and you can view them and dismiss them. Huzzah!  Obviously this is a UI problem that should be reported using the Help Center and Send a request as usual.
